I remember this as a «bog standard» Greenall-Whitley pub. The transformation is just amazing. This is now A J W Lees pub, serves good real ales and the usual keg beers and is a welcoming oasis for those who live anywhere near. Even as complete strangers, we were made to feel welcome and were impressed by the efficiency of the barstaff. They were trying to serve a number of customers with drinks and food on a busy Saturday afternoon, yet were always smiling and calm. There is a large carpark as part of the site. The toilet facilities are excellent and perfectly clean and the whole pub is well-looked-after. After not visiting in many, many years, we shall be calling in much more often in the future, especially as I don’t have to drive there — it is on the main bus routes.

If you happen to be near Woolston, the Rope is your best option for a local. You can get a good pint and some hot food. Quiz night on Wednesday is loud and annoying though, so beware. Lots of funny and friendly local drunks on the weekend! Enjoy.

Reasonable food at reasonable prices. I’ve never had a bad meal there. 2 real ale pumps but being a tied pub they have the 2 same beers on that are not the great. Usually the Bombardier and the Duechers IPA. A nice airy modern comfortable pub with a large bar with 2TV’s. A lot better than the nearest choice of the Mascrat manor. They have discos, quizzes and bands.
