The Lethbridge Arms

Very poor lunch with half the ingredients not available as advertised on the menu and bits missing when served up that was supposed to be on our plates, and no proper apologies forthcoming when queried. Not a good experience on the whole as you expect better now days from local pubs trying to make a go of it. Such a shame, and will not be going again.

A very disappointing lunch. You wouldn’t think a simple ploughman’s could be messed up but, Ye Gods, they tried
dry roll, previously frozen and only just thawed. No butter, had to ask for some.

chunky slices of apple, complete with core
dry old pork pie
no dressing of any description
huge chunky plank of celery
too much rocket (why does this offensive vegetable seem so ubiquitous nowadays???) but that might just be a matter of personal taste and just a few miniature leaves to go with it
On ther plus side, the local beer was okay and the surroundings okay if a tad impersonal.
To be fair, the people on the table next to us seemed to have enjoyed their cooked meals so I might give the place another try some time and do a more positive review if deserved but low marks on the strength of this visit.

Went for lunch here with family yesterday, we’ve not been here since it changed hands although the food has always been pretty good.
There was a good variety of dishes, certainly something for everyone, I would say. I chose the hot and spicy king prawns for a starter, various members of my family chose beer battered mushrooms (very crunchy and crisp), pâté and toast (plentiful and very flavoursome), and soup (tomato and red onion, very tasty and not too much considering it was a starter).
The service was very good, and we weren’t waiting long for our food. For the main course, 3 of us had the beer battered cod and chips, and one had the ham hock stew. I’m very fussy about my fish, but this was fresh and cooked to soft, opaque perfection. The batter was light and crisp, and thin enough to see the fish through. It came with skinny fries and buttered peas, and was just right for lunch. The ham hock stew was interesting, with plenty of shredded ham hock, new potatoes and chick peas in a tomato sauce lots of flavour and definitely original!
The coffee is also very good, I would definitely recommend partaking if you have the room!
We were all very impressed by the food, it was all cooked fresh but we didn’t have to wait an inordinate amount of time, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable we will definitely be going back again, so that we can work our way through the extensive menu!
