Howards Fish & Chips

I left Taunton over 20 years ago having grown up here. Despite a couple of brief visits I’ve not really spent much time here.
Decided I needed to come back and relive my yoof. Part of that is Howard’s chip shop. I think (and I might be wrong) that I went to college with the original? owners daughter.
Anyway, as the saying goes you should never go back. Should have taken the advice. It wasn’t the worst portion of chips I’ve ever had (that accolade goes to a place in Sunderland) but it came in a very solid second.
Mushy, greasy, tasteless… get the picture? Portion size was adequate, just! but have to give the fryer ¹⁰⁄₁₀ for cheek charging £1.70. Covent Garden charge £2 and you get twice the amount of (edible) chips.
Possibly this par for the course in Taunton but they’d last 5 seconds in London.
As I said shouldn’t have gone back! Sad sad sad :(

Family run fish and chip shop situated in St James Street Taunton. A Great smell greets your nose every lunch time and evening as you walk the length of St James Street. It is a tiny fish and chip shop which is always busy. Forget the line of people outside waiting for their dinner/​tea as it is dealt with quickly and efficiently by the friendly and happy staff serving behind the counters. They sell good portions of cod and chips as well as pies and chickens and burgers and curry sauce as well as pickled onions, pickled eggs and gherkins. Reasonable prices, open lunch and evenings. Great takeaway in the centre of town.
