Description

Specialties

The premier REAL ALE serving pub in the town center, the Glue Pot’s corner shop appearance belies the drinking treasures to be found within. The pub gets its name from the railway coach-builders who would bring their gluepots with them when they took their breaks and would place their pots on the central stove to keep them hot; unfortunately, health and safety has put paid to the stove.

The Glue Pot is unashamedly a real old-fashioned pub with old-fashioned values. Why not call in and see us for a warm welcome and a cracking pint.

8 Real Ales including Hop Back — Cropcircle, Summer Lightning, Citra & Entire Stout.

6 Traditional Ciders including a regularly changing Guest.

Good Beer Guide listed for the last 8 years consecutively!

Swindon and North Wilshire CAMRA’s Cider Pub of the Year 2016, at least 6 tradition ciders always available.

Look out for Happy Mondays — Real Ale from £2−30 a pint & our annual Easter Weekend Beer & Cider Festival!

History

Established in 1851.

Built as part of Brunel’s historic Railway Village, from the Bath stone extracted from Box Hill to create the Box Tunnel, The Glue Pots corner shop appearance betrays its original use, as a Wool & Linen Drapery, prior to its conversion to a public house, The London Stout House, in the early 1850’s. The Glue Pot name comes from the GWR Coach-builders who would bring their glue pots with them to the pub to keep the glue runny by leaving them of the pot bellied stove (long since removed) to keep warm. Many of their glue pots remain uncollected to this day!

Meet the Manager

Jonathan — J. C.

Manager

I have been in the pub trade since leaving the Army in 1989, I have also been a Brewer in that time period and have always had a keen interest in the quality of my real ale, after all it’s what I drink!

I keep real ale to drink, what I have left we sell!

I am ably supported by the fantastic Team Glue Pot, the two Laura’s, Michael, Tim & Ian, one of us will always be on hand to answer any questions you might have.
