Not my favourite Wetherspoon branch(and I’ve been in a lot of them over the past month — trying them all out for Qype!) The menu was just as good(very good value meals) and the bar staff were mostly friendly. Still on the plus side it’s very spacious — there’s even a dance floor at one end! There are wide screen televisions on the walls showing Sky News with the sound off and — at last — the first place I’ve been in(perhaps ever) which has the sense to switch on the subtitles! On the down side, the tables, some chairs and all the internal doors were decidedly tacky and sticky and could do with a good clean and polish. If you’re female and in need of a lot of exercise then this will be a plus(but to others a definite minus): the ladies room is miles away upstairs along almost endless corridors and through countless doors. I thought it was some kind of cruel joke at first. This pub was a bank at one time which is fairly obvious to most but should be common knowledge to the staff. However, I overheard someone asking someone working at the bar what it was before it turned into a pub, but they didn’t know. Needless to say, old busybody me had to intervene and direct them to the Wetherspoon website where all is explained(I had checked it out before I left home).

This used to be a good place, it used to be one of the few retreats on wind street. It was more like a normal quiet wetherspoons, but they decided to turn it into exactly the same as the rest of wind street, loud music and lots of people. No sign bar is the only quiet place left on wind street now. Though the bank statement does sell draught ale.
