Tesco Express is the British MNC’s convenience store concept serving neighborhood commercial districts and small town high streets. This Tesco Express serves the Boldmere neighborhood and the western half of Wylde Green. I’m not sure on the total square meters of this location, but it feels slightly larger than some of the other expresses outside of Birmingham city centre. The store is stocked with a small range of fresh vegetables and fruits, cold case foods, dry goods, beer/wines/spirits, and some household items. The hours are convenient for a local shop, with operating hours of 6AM-11PM7 days a week. As Tesco has admitted previously, some of the items at Express may be marked up from the larger stores. However, the goods here are typically cheaper than the Boldmere Sainsbury’s Local and typically match or undercut Simply Fresh. The fresh food quality is typically on par or better than other local area markets. Tesco has done a great job with their hiring and staff retention here, as I am usually greeted by the same till clerks at each visit. As much as I would like to give them a perfect five, this location has suffered from supply problems. In the past three months I’ve only been able to purchase a 12 pack of eggs once, and many convenience items stocked are hit or miss. If you have a large grocery list and want true variety in your shopping experience, the Tesco Extra in New Oscott is only 1 mile away. If you live in the Boldmere area and don’t feel like driving to a true supermarket, this store is likely your best bet.
