An ember inns chain; the horse and jockey is pretty popular for their pub quiz but one of the more difficult pubs in Sutton to get a table on a quiz night or the weekend. Drinks selection is good and prices are reasonable, due to its ember inns it can be a little warm and stuffy. Food is average, the service can be very slow even during the day when there aren’t many customers. All in all it does its job and a good place to get one or two drinks in before venturing further into Sutton town.

Fantastic little place for a lovely drink or your Sunday dinner. Took my mother a few weeks back and she’s fussy and she loved the food. Highly recommend for friends and family.

Weirdest recommendation ever. The Horse and Jockey was the venue for my friends Grandma’s wake. She said the food was very good and we went there for dinner to try the menu out. The space inside was great. We went during a popular Rugby game and was still in a quiet corner of the restaurant areas. I wanted Mussells for starter and the bbq chicken pizza but both were sold out. I had the pâté and hunters chicken instead. I also had some of my friends bbq chicken wings as well. We felft like we had a feast infron t of us but it all added up to a reasonable price. The service was from the bar where you ordered. Despite it being busy we were served quickly and we really enjoyed the food.

Nice pub with great members of staff who are incredibly obliging and friendly. I had the cauliflower cheese tart roast dinner which was from the Sunday set menu at £7.50 and was very good value for money. The portion size was big and overall very tasty. The puddings in comparison were small on size but still very tasty.

Summer afternoon lunch in the yard at the Horse and Jockey! More people were sat outside than inside which is pretty odd but the weather was great. The Horse and Jockey has been here for years. It’s usually a busy place especially in winter evenings. So I was pretty pleased to find it was quiet. The service was swift and friendly. I really enjoyed my sandwich with chunky chips.

One of Sutton Coldfield’s best pubs. The food is always good, but more importantly, if you’re a real ale fan this is a great place to go. There are always several ales on offer, I’m particularly fond of the dark beers.

You know what they say: location, location, location. It’s something with which this pub is blessed, although it may not be immediately obvious. Yes, it’s sat betwixt two ridiculously busy roads at a crazy junction, plonking it right on the edge of Sutton Coldfield’s central hub, instead of in the thick of things. And yet… that’s the point and appeal. Sure, there’s the odd alcopop still and laddish corners, but combined with diners, a swathe of older residents meeting friends or perhaps — ooh — on ‘date night’, it’s a mix that makes a nice whole. It avoids coming off as chain pub banality, while also avoiding wall-to-wall sweaty kids who are just months into their first legal beers. And there’s nothing else quite like it in town. You don’t get this vibe — truly busy at weekends — those few hundred yards into the heart of town and nor do you find it following the short trip down Jockey Road into Boldmere. Whatever your dress and attitude to what a Friday night should be — casual or formal — you will fit right in. Staff who know how to handle a busy bar doesn’t harm things either. There is parking, but be advised there is a small charge levied at a machine. Go easy on it, it’s there not to penalise you but deter cheeky Beeches Walk shoppers and parents on the school run.

Well. this is a landmark pub in Sutton Coldfield. Located on a busy junction on the entrance to the main town centre. Small car park but this is England and that’s what you get. Enter through the outside smoking area(uck…could they not have put it elsewhere ?) Into very nice lounge, lots of seating and the lighting is just right. Not too bright but light enough to take a good look at the face of that stranger before the alcohol gives you enough courage to go over and say ‘Hi’. Many beers, spirits and wines are available from a very ample bar area and the weekend atmosphere is great. A popular pub for a good reason.

Great pub with excellent staff and service. It’s quite cheap and the surroundings are very relaxed. Definetly recommended for a drink or lunch.
