would advise anyone to give it a miss. The reatuarant is in need of a good clean, one member of staff wasnt able to use the words please or thankyou. She obviously hated her job and everyone whom she worked with. Terrible atmosphere couldnt wait to get out. The cutlery was filthy and the cups were chipped, didnt expect bone china or anything but clean your cutlery and there is nothing worse than a chipped cup. Wont be going back… EVER!

Barnacles was the best place to get your fish and chips about 20 years ago. Now it provides decent fish and chips but not outstanding. I find it is always too busy to have the sit down meal on weelends and I end up using the takeaway. I am not keen on the childrens menu but for pensioners they do some good mid week deals so I often take my OAP parents as they love a sit down chippy. overall decent but not outstanding. I prefer harry ramsdens but there aren’t any in the Stockton area that I know of.

Barnacles is a great Fish ‘n’ Chip shop and restaurant. The shop and restaurant sell a range of fish and meat meals with chips. Children’s versions of meals are available. Meals are cheap and there are plenty of 2 for 1 offers at designated times. Newspaper advertisement discounts are available regularly in the local newspapers, for cheap meals in this restaurant. The basic Fish ‘n’ Chip meal is equal to any version I have tasted elsewhere. A basic Fish ‘n’ Chip takeaway /meal.

I have dined at Barnacles restaurant in Stockton a few times, and i think it’s ok if you want a cheap and cheerful meal. I have always found the staff very friendly and the service good; the menu is quite varied, with sandwiches, salads and obviously fish and chips! The portion sizes are really good, and I have always enjoyed the meals I have had there. The toilets are clean, as are the tables. The only real complaint I have is that the children’s menu is very unhealthy, offering children a soft drink with their meal, which of course is the usual syrup-filled rubbish. My daughter had a treat of a drink of coca cola in there and in literally a matter of minutes she got so hyperactive(not like her at all) that I actually had to take her outside to calm down! I tasted said drink and it was so sweet that it made me feel sick, and I have a sweet tooth! I personally prefer the Barnacles reaturant in nearby Billingham to this one.

As has previously been stated, this Barnacles store is not as good as it used to be. However, it is a cut above the new Barnacles takeaways that have opened on Stockton High Street and on the Glebe Estate. It is still our number one choice for a quick take out lunch if we are Stockton or as a pre drinking meal if we are heading out on the town. Having not eaten in Barnacles Restaurant for many years, I can’t comment on it’s current state but I may venture into the restaurant one day soon to find out.

I remember when this opened when i was tiny, it was seen as a huge treat. But back then Stockton High Street was quite a nice place to go, what with Leslie Browns toyshop, Dressers stationery, Clinkards, Lockwoods, River Island, Pizzaland and so on. Barnacles is not as good as it should be, let’s say that. Sometimes your plate’s not as clean as you want, or your fork. But the food is ok, and certainly good value.
