Situated on the north side of St Albans next to the village of Sandridge, Carpenter’s Nursery & Farm Shop is a family run business which has been selling quality plants and home grown fruit and vegetables to consumers since 1923. With our team of highly knowledgeable staff we have earned an excellent reputation as a boutique Garden Centre supplying the best quality products and gardening advice.

History

Established in 1923.

One of the oldest nurseries and farm shops in Hertfordshire, Carpenter’s Nursery & Farm Shop was started by Fred Carpenter senior in 1923.

With limited resources and amenities available, Fred senior initially focused on growing seasonal fruit and vegetables that were sold at St Albans market and the surrounding villages.

The business grew slowly until Fred Carpenter junior joined in 1947. Installing mains electricity and an irrigation system at the site he set about building a retail nursery, laying the foundations for the modern business as it is today!
