Coco Rio

I visited here with some friends and have to say this is the best restaurant I have eaten in in a while. Wonderful food, wonderful atmosphere and really nice staff. You can sit upstairs or downstairs and there is live music. It has the feeling of eating with friends at a house, really warm.
I had crocodile for starters and duck for main and it was amazing. It is not cheap but the food is well worth it. My partner had the sweet potato curry and he cleared his plate! The puddings were to die for and the ice cream was homemade.
I wouldn’t hesitate to go back here again.

I visited Coco Rio with a friend for lunch during the spring. They offer a selection of 3 small dishes picking from about 10 different ones at lunchtime. I had the red pepper rice, spicy malawi chicken skewers and a chicken curry. They have an African theme to the restaurant and offer all sorts of adventurous dishes a la carte, such as alligator on the menu. They are a family run restaurant I believe. I keep meaning to return for an evening as they also sometimes have live music and jazz playing throughout the evening although every time I call they are always booked up! Service was very good when we visited. We were served quickly and the food was hot and really delicious. The staff were attentive and quick to respond when we signaled them and the bill arrived as soon as we requested it although to be fair the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy that lunchtime so I would expect fast service.

I love this restaurant. It is a break from your usual Italian or Chinese restaurant. It has a great variety to the menu! My husband tried crocodile or ostrich kebabs I think! I had a delicious Hallumi with pineapple salsa to start. My main was a gorgeous South African vegi curry and my husband had what he said was a delicious chicken dish with great flavours! The restaurant itself has a lovely ambiance with live music towards the end of the night. The chairs are comfy and the owners are lovely. They always come over to have a chat with you and to make you feel very welcome. It’s a beautiful restaurant although a little pricey. Although let’s be honest where isn’t these days?

Coco Rio is one of the best restaurants in Southampton if not Hampshire!!!
The food is lovely, interesting choices and service is friendly and completely unpretentious.
Not the cheapest of places but definately value for money!
Also has live Latin music later on in the evening.
