Solihull Ice Rink is a very well used facility in the south of the city.
With a full time table of events on their website through out the year the rink is extremly well utilised by patrons of all ages and abilities.

Free wifi in public areas
There is a full skate hire booth and seating area, games area, and seating around the rink.
There is a cafeteria serving hot and cold beverages and light snacks e. g chips, burgers etc. The seating in this area keeps you out of the cold for a short period if you are not skating.
Vending machines are located around the rink with confectionary and drinks.
You can hire the party room for a kids skating party, hire lockers and there is also a bar lounge on match nights.
The building has separate rooms that can be hired for events, parties etc.
As well as recreational skating Solihull Ice Rink has a long tradition of training fantastic figure skaters and have an amazing ice hockey team!

Solihull Junior Barons are also part of the English Ice Hockey League (EIHL) and have teams for the under 10’s, 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and 18’s playing matches at home and away.

I’ve never actually taken to the ice here, I’ve always been too scared of falling. Plus I’m not really a fan of the cold anyway!
I’ve only visit here once last year because I was given a free ticket to see the Solihull ice hockey team ‘The Barons’ play in a tournament. I have to admit, I wasn’t very enthralled by the whole process at all. For some reason, there were loads of gaps and breaks in the matches, which I found quite frustrating. All that was happening was a zamboni kept appearing to clean and resurface the ice. I’m not sure if I’ve just had a bad experience from my time there, but I’m pretty sure hockey matches should run more smoother and consistent than this.
Luckily, the café and bar kept me entertained, and I warmed up with a nice cuppa tea, followed by a nice glass of rum.

Refurbished just years ago, the much improved Solihull Ice rink has little local competition. The nearest Ice rink– also newly restructured is a 20 minute drive away in the Birmingham city centre.
I have often visited many ice rinks from Nottingham to Bradford as I am keen on watching my close friends participate in their primary sport — Ice Hockey.
Solihull Ice rink has a bar attached and a café; there is an out-​dated arcade there one I have never seen used. The rink is far better than what it was and makes for a good night out. The opportunity to watch a decent quality of Ice Hockey arises along with times to ice skate yourself, you can hire your ice skates from inside the rink and even buy from the shop here.

From time to time I take my friend’s children ice skating during school holidays and this is the rink we usually visit. I guess this is because of both the location and that there is very little competition in the surrounding area.
It is normally busy when we visit as everyone tries to fit a skating session in whilst the kids are off school. This adds to the occasion for me as the hectic atmosphere contributes to the fun. This also means that you can have longer on the ice (not that we ever need more than an hour — you can only go around so many times right?)
The facilities are pretty good and the ice is kept in very good condition. There is also a café and a bar. Often there are disco sessions which the kids love.
Prices are not cheap, it is nearly £9 for each individual to skate although that includes the boot hire. There are some offers available for family groups which make it almost buy 3 get 1 free.

Skating instructors not able to spend sufficient time (if any) with new skaters as the ratio of skaters to instructors is too high. Spent the whole session attempting to skate with none of the advice/​support I have paid for — which is clearly why they ask you to pay for 5 sessions in advance, otherwise many would not be going back.

My children take lessons at the ice rink which are reasonably priced as after the lesson they can stay on the ice for as long as they want. It also has people skating around the rink making sure nobody is hurt or going the wrong way.
The café is cheap and sells chips, burgers etc. The staff are friendly and helpful

I recently organized some ice skating lessons here for my sisters children, the price of the lessons came to just a few pounds more for a 5 week course than 5 visits would have cost to the ice rink. The lessons were great and they managed to teach them how to skate within the 5 weeks to a confident standard — the children then progressed onto the level 2 classes. With the lessons (weekends) you are then able to use the rink after for practice which is included in your lesson price. It can get busy.
