Description

Specialties

Stoke Place is a reinvention of the traditional country house — a home from home environment, ideal for celebrations and with the feel of an aristocratic-owned private house.

With 39 bedrooms, 7 individually designed private rooms seating from 8 to 200 people, extensive gardens designed by the legendary Capability Brown and a gym and treatment room, Stoke Place offers conferences, weddings, quiet getaways and fantastic dining.

Surrounded by 26 acres of beautiful parkland and abundant wildlife, it is difficult to believe Stoke Place is only 30 minutes from central London. Built as a family home in 1690, the substantial Queen Anne Manor House retains all of its old charms and features, updated with handpicked modern designer pieces.

Stoke Place is classified as a 4* Hotel by the AA Hotel Guide and has been awarded 3 Rosettes from the AA Restaurant Guide.

History

Established in 1690.

Now known as Stoke Place, the original three-story William and Mary style house was built in 1690 by land-owner Patrick Lamb before being extended around 1755 and again in the 19th century. The 213-acre/86-hectare grounds were landscaped by Capability Brown. In 1764 Field Marshall Sir George Howard, Equerry to Queen Charlotte, bought the estate that would become the family home for the next 200 years.

The original entrance to the house was off the B416 through the gates near Stoke Place Farm while Grays Park road itself (B416) originally continued directly south from where the current mini-roundabout is, passing close to the house. However, Richard Howard-Vyse had the road diverted further west in 1820, creating the awkward bends that exist today.

In 1986 Stoke Place became part of the Stoke green conservation area and now operates as a luxury boutique hotel with the following distinctions:
