We are primarily an Inn, in the old-​fashioned sense, so we specialise in offering travellers and locals great-​value drinks, food and accommodation.

Situated right on Shanklin seafront, we are an ideal location for a seaside holiday, a short break, a walking holiday or just a romantic meal for two.

History

Established in 1800.

The Waterfront Inn, also known as Norfolk House Hotel, has been a place for travellers to rest, drink and eat since the early 1800s. Charles Darwin, author of the Origin of Species, stayed here for a few weeks in 1858 and declared Shanklin ’ the nicest seaside place we have ever seen’.

Catherine and David took over The Waterfront Inn in June 2010 and have been working hard to upgrade the public areas plus the food and drink offerings ever since.

Business Owner

David ran a successful software company from 1980 until 2003 when he and his partner, Catherine, diversified into the hospitality business, running a pub in Huntingdon and a café in Emsworth, Hampshire.
