Specialties
St Leonards & St Ives Ex Services Club is a family club. We have members from all walks of life, not just ex Services; we do however support our services and Help for Heroes.
We like to have fun and have live music every Saturday night and are shortly trialling younger bands on a Friday night monthly. We have all the usual team games: — darts, snooker, pool and dominoes and also have bingo and card bingo, twice a week and a new card game (draw) Joker in the Pack on a Friday.
Our kitchen is a work in progress and so food will be available soon.
It is a members club and we are registered under the Friendly Societies Act, so we do have rules, obviously.
We have regular Open Events so that people can come and visit and apply for membership, so do come and see us we are a friendly lot.
History
Established in 1954.
In 1949, forty ex servicemen met at the village hall and agreed to form St Leonards & St Ives Ex Services Club. Each person paid one shilling each and the £2.00 raised became the starting capital. The grounds were donated by the parents of Squadron Leader Dennis Beck, who sadly was killed in action during the Second World War.
The Club was built by volunteers and on Easter Sunday 1954, the Club was opened by Col. E. G. St Aubyn the Chairman of the Welcome Home Fund.
The Club has been added to over the years and members are no longer exclusively ex service personnel; however we do like to keep te founding spirit alive and we support Help For Heroes and the Royal British Legion.
Meet the Manager
Candy V.
Manager
Candy is our Bar Manager and she works hard for the members and the Club. Candy is the first point of contact and can answer most queries.
Candy loves to make parties and events special and decorates the Club fantastically for those special events like Halloween and Christmas; she and her bar staff do love dressing up!
Candy gets to know our members well and can advise the Committee of anything notable that is happening, where a card or other acknowledgement is needed. Candy also has done a grand job of planting and maintaining our grounds and garden, which always look lovely. You certainly can expect a warm welcome.
