The local curry house of relatives in Reigate — most accommodatingly managed to find us a table at short notice on a Sunday night — but boy were they busy! Suggest booking well in advance. Menu was small but excellent, including one or two dishes unfamiliar to us antipodean types. In no time at all poppadums and dipping sauces appeared, and our meals turned up very quickly following our order. Biryani was excellent, the duck xacuti I had unusual but flavoursome, prawns suitably fiery, and the naan most excellent. Washed down with crisp cold indian beer, nothing to complain about here, except they did jam a few too many tables in for my liking, and we could barely move without knocking elbows with someone.

Clove is a bit classier than your average curry house, the chef trained at the Oberoi in India and it really shows in the cooking. Everything I have had has been delicious, and it’s one of the few places where I love ALL of the chutneys! A particular favourite is the cashew-rich Baddam Passanda(something I’ve never seen anywhere else).

Wow this place makes the best curry I have ever had, and I’ve had a lot of curries. Since I first ate here a couple of years ago I haven’t been able to find another restaurant that does anywhere close to anything as tasty. The food is full of flavour and fresh ingredients. It has a takeaway service but no delivery so the main focus is on the customers in the restaurant. The waiters are stylishly dressed in black and the décor is also very nice. Go here for your next curry, you won’t be disappointed!
