We went there last Sunday having booked a month in advance for a family of eight people to dine at 6pm. On the morning we received a phone call, they wanted all our food orders in that morning which resulted in rushed telephone calls, it was difficult to decide what you wanted for tea at 10am, never mind the two children in our party. Upon ringing back the pub we were told the order had to be written down and hand delivered to the pub which then resulted in our father having to visit there to do this. When we arrived at 6pm we were told the table wasn’t ready and we had to wait. When we were seated half an hour later the waitress asked if we would like to look at the menu, when we said we had hand delivered our choices, there was a fuss and delay in locating the paperwork. Most of the orders were correct but one order veg and potatoes were smothered in butter when our printed order had in capitals NOBUTTERONTHEPOTATOESORVEG. We have visited the Dog on many occasions and this caters for all our family’s tastes but we have never had this rigmarole before and this new method of ordering would put us off going again which is a shame because we like the setting, staff and food(although the steak was a bit tough). It has gone down-hill since our last visit.

You’ve got to hand it to this chain — the value is excellent. Lamb steaks and unlimited salad and a glass of San Miguel for under £10 — is virtually unbeatable. There are niggling things — like the tables are sometimes sticky as they haven’t been wiped with soap and warm water. And the salad bar often looks uncared for. But as a place to get a straight forward meat based meal from the change in your pocket — then don’t drive past.

Really good Restaurant, part of the Harvester Pub & Grill chain. Good central location with plenty of car parking. Clean & tidy. Good choice of food for the whole family. Been there twice now, the first time the service was excellent, the second time was for Sunday lunch, where the service was average.

Branded pubs are not my ideal venue, but their early bird menu, for both adults, and children is very competitive. I think that Harvester have upped their game, and the help yourself salad bar is a winner. Worth a visit early evening. Returned — 21÷7÷09 In time for the early bird menu. You get what you pay for. The spit roast chicken looks good value, but it can be overcooked, which one was and returned, and replaced very quickly. I think my wife’s was undercooked, and she suffered the next day, believing that she had swine flu. I had the gammon, and two eggs, nothing special, and priced at £4.99, plus salad bar, value for money. One of kids chicken was quite tough on one side, so presumably left to one side and kept warm. They were happy to combine the children’s sweet(jelly and ice cream), paid for the two. Staff very friendly, and busy, and can sometimes forget a request. At our visit the gent’s toilets were really discusting. I could only allow my boy to use one of the WCs. There was wet all over the floor near the urinals. One of the WCs could be flush sorry too much detail. This is something they really need to get right.
