Preston Station

Another railway station. Preston.
This is not a bad station for somewhere like Preston, but very much bog standard. The platforms are very long and have a shortage for seating but it’s very easy to make your way around here.
There’s stairs to get from one platform to the next. An (expensive) café to buy food and drink from and a vending machine for a quick energy boost.
The ticket office is located at the top of the stair next to the exit and I’ve never had any problems using these facilities.
One bug is that there’s (from what I know) only one set of toilets located on one platform meaning if you need the loo and your on a different platform, you’ll have to walk up down stairs only to then return back up down stairs to your platform.
All in all, an okay, pretty standard station.

For all the station can be draughty and the weather is usually wet and miserable the shops at the station provide all that is needed for a short stopover to change trains. The cold metal seats are surprisingly comfortable and shapely so they are more comfortable than they look. I have yet to work out the platform system however, as the trains seem to stop at any platform available rather than having a dedicated north/​south line and local lines. Bring a book as people watching even in nice weather is dull here, and the best way to ensure that you enjoy your stay here is to not stay long and to have a seat booked on the train you intend to leave on!

So I’ve been here enough times now (either straight through on my regular Glasgow — Euston trips with work or changing to go somewhere else) that I should give the station a proper review.
Although not the biggest with only 6 platforms, it acts as the gateway to Blackpool and the local area from the West Coast Mainline. This means it’s often quite busy as people are waiting for trains.
If you’ve a decent time to wait for your next train I would recommend leaving the station, turning right at the top of the hill then branching left to take you to the Old Black Bull, a CAMRA award winning pub (if you’ve less time exit through the side entrance and head to Mount Street and Hartley’s Wine Bar). There’s a bar in the station but it sells boring beers.

Wizbit totally rocked. This station is fine, but it’s not Wizbit cool. Not much is, to be fair.
The station is fine, well signposted, plenty of platforms, a nice little pub for a beer or two if you’re waiting a long time. It’s a busy station, plenty of trains north and south, often used for changing and splitting your journey.
Allow yourself a wee bit of time between trains if you can, there’s a whole bridge/​stair conundrum to deal with if you have a lot of luggage/​sore feet/​children/​slow walking pace.
Could do worse.
Could be Wizbit, though. That would be cool.

Large modern station fantastic facilities great cafes even a bar which was surprisingly cheap for beer ;) missed the train to blackpool after losing track of time in the bar lol had get next one hehe :) very clean and toilets immaculate.

I’ve never been a fan of this station, particularly after getting stuck here for 3 hours once.
It’s a big drafty station with lots of platforms. If you are changing here make sure you have enough time particularly if your train ends up being slightly late.
I’ve never understood why this is such a big station. I went to Preston once and there was hardly anything there.

Before I moved to my current location it seemed that anywhere I ever wanted to go involved changing at Preston, the place needs a good clean and modernising, I have found the prices to eat here extortionate however if you have the time acrross the road is a fantastic coffee shop and there is also a McDonalds

as much fun and all the atmosphere of the minutes immediately after an air raid. in the rain. in january. while being asked to carry heavy luggage. Its facelift has been cancelled which is a shame, it needs some TLC.

A very poor excuse for a city centre railway station, the station is completely outdated and in good need of renovation. There are 7 platforms on the station, but platform 7 gets rarely used and getting to platforms 1 & 2 is very hard work unless you use the subways. There are a couple of shops to buy food, drink, newspapers etc.
To be honest, the station needs some real investment and a bus link connected to the station, the sooner, the better!
