Well run pub. A new manager is in place who is gradually doing it up inside and out.
If you enjoy a pint of real ale then this is a place to come. Always half a dozen to choose from and you can try before you buy, so no need to buy a pint and then not enjoy. In addition the food here is very good and cheap, meal deals that include drinks include any pint of real ale that is under 5% ABV.
Whilst you might think this is the norm for a JD Wetherspoon pub, the food does come out promptly and hot, the ale is well kept and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Situated in the middle of North End Shopping Centre, Portsmouth it is close to a wide variety of shops and there is access to local car parks.

An okay pub, but a typical Weatherspoons no atmosphere and if your on your own, it can be rather boring.
Seem to get a few regulars in there, the ones who you see drinking at 10am and are still there at tea time and beyond.

Big and barn-​like. However, the service is friendly, the atmosphere is unthreatening and the prices and food are good.

This Wetherspoons pub is called the Sir John Baker after a former mayor of the area and local MP who lived nearby. It is my least favourite of all the Wetherspoons in Portsmouth as it doesn’t seem to be as friendly or welcoming as the others.
It serves the usual range of food which is quite cheap and cheerful, and a range of alcoholic and soft drinks including some real ales.
Children are allowed but I think this is only if you are ordering food and they are not allowed in late in the evening.
The pub is on a main shopping street and it can be difficult to park nearby.

A decent place for a meal, their beer and burger deal always goes down well. I’ve not had any problems with the food here. It’s a Wetherspoons so the prices are cheap, lots of good promo’s right in the heart of North end so a good location. It’s always pretty busy.
