We’ve lived in this area for seven years yet today was the first time we discovered this walk! I think sections of it are fairly new as the authorities are trying to link existing pathways to make a route from the town to the seafront at Aberavon. It’s certainly a rewarding walk(around 3 miles) with a mixture of industry and countryside along the length and lots of wild flowers and birds too. There should be clearer signs erected along the route because it’s not always easy to see which way to go, especially along the first mile or so. There are several roads to negotiate, a couple of bridges and subways before the path becomes really clear. We went the wrong way three or four times but fortunately met some friendly people who showed us the way to go. Once on the west bank of the River Afan the path became easier to follow and it was nice to walk down the side of the estuary towards the sea. Eventually we turned onto the Promenade itself where we’ve been many times but by car. If you don’t want to walk all the way back it’s easy to take a number 8 bus back to Port Talbot(as we did!) they run every 20 minutes.
