History

Established in 1900.

The origins can be traced back to when Dr Dawkins established a Practice in Pontypridd. Successive doctors included Dr Howard Davies, Dr Arthur Jenkins and Dr Colin Lewis.

The practice first merged in 1962 when Dr Derek Sutherland, who practised from his Treforest surgery, established some years previously by his predecessor Dr George Mitchell, joined Dr Colin Lewis. In 1966 the Practice combined with the Practice based at The Field in Morgan Street. This had been founded in the early 1900’s by Dr Roberts who was succeeded in 1926 by Dr Ben James. Following the death of Dr James in 1952, Dr Woronowsky took over the Practice and in 1954 he was joined by Dr John James one of Dr Ben James’ sons, his other son, Dr David James, joined the Ashgrove Practice in 1964.

The combined Practice was located in the grounds of Ashgrove House, the original home and surgery of Dr Dawkins, in Upper Church Street. This surgery was home to the Practice until 1985 when it moved to its present location.
