We7 offers free MP3 music with good sound quality (192 kBit/​s) and lacking any copy protection (DRM) and all this is entirely legal.
You only have to register, and off you go. You have free choice in a variety of well-​presented music genres. Some artists are big ones: E. g., We7 has albums and songs by Sly & the Family Stone, Helloween, Uriah Heep, The Kinks, Glenn Miller & His Orchestra, Ben Glover & the Earls, Motörhead, Carleen Anderson, Marvin Gaye, Willie Nelson, Fairport Convention, Edith Piaf, The Heptones, Jefferson Airplane, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and Little Richard.
Of course, there is a catch to it: You pay for all this by exposing yourself to short ads and messages. I can’t tell you yet how exactly this works albums by Sly & the Family Stone and Earth, Wind & Fire which I just downloaded only contained one 2-​second We7 jingle prefacing each song. According to We7 (
) the ads/​messages won’t be longer than 10 seconds.
We7’s info page (
) says that the company has been in existence since May 2007. Its founders include Peter Gabriel (ex-​Genesis).
In addition to the free downloads, the website is worth a visit because it features very informative editorial content. You get portraits of essential artists of many genres, recommendations of new talent and theme-​oriented song collections.
In its privacy policy (
), the company promises that the e-​mail addresses of its members won’t be disclosed to any third parties. We7 itself, however, may send marketing material which contains third party adverts. You can withdraw your permission to this on the privacy policy page.
