This new boutique is quirky, colourful and a welcome change from chain fashion shops. It’s got quirky and pretty dresses, skirts, tops and coats, although its main attraction is the wonderful array of dresses, ranging from casual to partywear. There are lots of frills, original designs and unusual materials, but all of them are wearable; not your average dress, but not destined to never go futher than the catwalk or quirky fashion magazines. Unfortunately, the shop is let down by two things: its sizing and its staff. Most clothes are labelled as small, medium or large, ignoring the conventional sizing system. In my experience, small is usually defined as 8 – 10, medium as 12 – 14 and large as 16 – 18. Here, though, large seems to be about a size 12, making small ridiculously small, and greatly limiting the number of people who can fit into the clothes. It’s misleading and not great for self-esteem. The staff are also quite distant and seem a bit on the snobby side. They don’t rush to help and were reluctant to the point of being rude when my to let y friend leave something behind the till, as she wasn’t definitely going to buy anything. Of course, all this is the shop’s choice, but it’s not going to win them many fans, which is a shame as it has great potential.
