History
Established in 1988.
Twenty-five years ago Freud opened its doors to Jericho. The idea was a simple one, we wanted to protect the former church from its impending demolition, and were keen to find a way that we could maximise the number of people who could enjoy the stunning architecture, famous stained glass windows and the Holman Hunt original that is painted on the domed ceiling of the apse.
The solution was to bring our café-bar, a concept that we pioneered from our London basement on Shaftesbury Avenue since 1986. Freud is designed to be a place for you to make your own — come hang out with friends, read a book, write an essay or pop in for lunch. As the evenings draw in, head over for live music, ranging from solo singers, bands and DJs, from Brazilian Forro Dance every Monday, to our Holy Funk Nights on Saturdays.
