Description

Specialties

We provide high quality boarding for dogs whilst owners are away or busy. All our staff are fully trained. We offer 24 hour onsite security and CCTV. Kennels are spacious and cleaned to a high spec.

On request we have kennels that have an outside area. We offer a quality diet, however, owners can provide their own food if desired. This is a very caring environment… with plenty of wagging tails! We also give discounts for regular customers or multiple dog bookings.

As well as boarding we offer a stray rehoming service. Prices range depending on individual dogs and pedigree. All rehomes, on production of 1st vacc certificate, are offered free micro chipping and neutering vouchers. We also offer name tags and leads etc at very reasonable prices.

Anyone is welcome to come and look around before booking. Based virtually on junction 40 of M1 (Ossett direction, up the slip road) we are easy to get to. We are behind the houses opposite Flushdyke Juior and Infants School.

History

Established in 2011.

The kennels were originally established back in 1970s, formerly known as Springfield Kennels… however, Springfield closed in Jan 2011. I took over the ownership in the March of that year and began a major extensive refurbishment… lasting til we opened boarding in June 2011. Originally there were 50 inside kennels but we knocked 2 kennels into 1 and created some «inny outies» which have a large outside area. Due to the size of the kennels being much larger, we are still licensed for 50 dogs.

Along side the boarders, we continued refurbishment of the stray kennels, virtually raising the old kennels to the ground. We now have 21 kennels to house upto 25 strays, brought in by the surrounding local dog wardens and after 78 days we can look for a new home for these dogs.

The «NEW and IMPROVED» kennels are barely recognisable now, and staff are comitted to the welfare of our canine buddies. We hope we will gain and maintain a fantastic reputation which will have longevity.

Meet the Business Owner

Sara K.

Business Owner

I first came across the kennels when I lost my beloved cat (Carrot) in March 2003. I decided to do some voluntary work at a kennels and Springfield was the closest (on my moped). Little did I know then that years down the line I would own it.

Apart from owning the kennels, I am a qualified Occupational Therapist working in Child Psychiatry, with a history or paediatrics before then. and a helping of adult psychiatry. I have always loved animals and have many a time found injured birds (including a massive seagul), and random cats and dogs roaming, with no ID. I did a stint in my local vets when I was 17 as part of a school project. (They say never work with children or animals… DOH!)…and here I am!

Sam, the kennels manager, has worked on and off at the kennels for 16 years, only taking breaks in service due to child care. She began her kennels life when she was 14 for her work experience, saturday job, then full time. She is trained up to a kennels managent diploma!
