Fine café with a good choice of snacks & drinks plus light meals including renowned fresh waffles(which I haven’t actually tried yet!) Very friendly owner and staff with interesting conversation. Situated towards the end of the pedestrianised part of Burscough Street,(just up from the Buck ith Vine Pub) so is a bit quieter than some of the other more central cafes. Good value for money and worth trying.

I’m quite a big fan of waffles. Savoury ones are always a welcome change from chips and don’t look half as childish as potato smilies, and sweet ones are always delicious and seem somewhat exotic. I’ll pass on the blue waffles though, thanks(Google it if you don’t know what I’m on about, but make sure you’re not eating). Thankfully, the waffles on offer at the lovely little Café Red in Ormskirk are not of the blue variety and are instead perfectly sweet, slightly crispy and available with a range of toppings. They are well-known in the area for the waffles they sell there and they do make a nice change to the usual cakes and scones in little cafes like this. Café Red also sells a variety of freshly made sandwiches and other refreshments(it’s not all about the waffles if you don’t fancy them), all of which are available at very reasonable prices. The café itself has a cosy, friendly atmosphere and its position on Burscough Street means it’s busy enough without getting too packed. An interesting alternative to your normal café cuisine in the area.
