The Butty Box

Quite a bizarre place this, but good bizarre I assure you. Tucked away down a side-​street in the middle of a very industrial part of Oldbury, this café alerts people to its existence only by a sign on the corner of Parsonage Street and Tat Bank Road which says ‘Café Open 7 Days’.
I went to check it out one morning last week and found it to be a great little set-​up. The layout is a sandwich van with a couple of tables in front of it covered over by a plastic sheeting roof. Next to that is a portakabin kitted out with a few tables and a sink. Behind the sandwich van is a caravan which I presume is the office.
Whilst waiting for my breakfast (on crusty bread. Yes, I had that choice offered to me) I flicked through the paper on the counter and listened to the sounds of ‘This Morning’ emanating from a small tele somewhere in the sandwich van. The resulting sandwich was lovely and an absolute bargain at £1.80 for a sausage and egg sandwich on crusty bread.
This café is designed to cater to the nearby factories, garages and builders yards which surround it. However, if you want a decent sandwich, I’d advise that you get yourselves down there too.
