D&H is a nice little local pub easily accessible by car or bike. Luckily it was blue skies when we came here. They have a great garden with sweeping views or the English countryside. Came here for Sunday Roast today being a Sunday. It was packed! Good thing we booked. I thought the Beef Sunday roast was quite tasty but the portion size was smaller than average so was left hungry. The Yorkshire pudding was burnt so it was crunchy(in not a good way). The roast potatoes and turnips were good and well cooked. I has the apple crumple for dessert(swapped custard for vanilla ice cream) and it was very sweet tho the vanilla ice cream was amazing. The service was sub par. It took 20+ mins to get our food after we ordered. It took another 20+ mins to get our dessert after we ordered. And in the end we had to get up to pay the bill as the waitress seemed to forget about us. I’d go again for the views in the garden but not the food or service.

Tried this place on a midweek night following a recommendation from a friend who had dined there since the pub re opened. Initial signs were good, very friendly staff, who seemed to work very hard to keep their regular customers happy. Starters were good, though the special of home made smoked makerel pâté was the texture and colour of fish paste. Mains of calves liver and onions, and pie of the day chicken and mushroom showed the true class of the kitchen. The liver looked and tasted as if it had been taken from the freezer, microwaved and then briefly pan fried, resulting in a raw tasting, smooth pâté texture. The accompanying onions were almost raw, and the chive mash the texture and glue like taste of packet mash. Good local bacon though. The chicken pie was OK, but no more than OK at £9.95, served with sauted potatoes which turned out to be microwave heated new potatoes stirred very briefly in oil. Still soft, greasy, and molten from the microwave. The microwaved veg and Bisto style beef gravy were pointless accompanyments. The barely touched plates were removed without comment, and the original friendliness vanished. Overall very disappointing, and at £45 for 2 with drinks, nowhere near good value. This place could learn a lot from the Tin Hat in Hinckley. short menu, freshly prepared, resulting in excellent food at lower prices than here.

The D&H has just opened again a couple of months back after being closed for almost 3 years. The new owners, Bill and Robert were involved in the restaurant trade in Covent Garden for several years before buying this place and becoming Mine Hosts there. I think the locals should think themselves very lucky. My wife and I drove 400 miles from Scotland to spend 2 or 3 days there eating, drinking and enjoying the different copmany. We were not disapointed and the 800 mile round trip was well worth the time and money! The food was absolutely beautiful, as was the service, prices and the local customers. We cannot wait to return. If your are nearby or even within an hour or two of a drive, PLEASE make the effort to go and you WILL become regulars! Do book for food at the weekends though as they can be very busy even though they are ‘in the middle of nowhere’. FANTASTIC5*

Although it’s quite tricky to get to, the Dog and Hedgehog in Dadlington is a warm, welcoming gastro pub that serves top quality, if slightly pricey home cooked food. They run a special offer in the week, meals being offered at a discount if ordered before a certain time. This leads to an influx of people just before 7pm and can cause an uncomfortable delay between ordering food and tucking in! The manager of the pub seems quite a cantankerous old soul, but with the quality of food on offer and the glorious scenery that surrounds you, a midweek evening meal at the Dog and Hedgehog can be a great way to break up a gloomy overcast winter week.
