Union Square Software was formed in 2000 to develop and implement knowledge management, collaboration and enterprise portal solutions for the construction industry. Union Square is privately funded and has its headquarters in Nottingham, UK. Although the company is niche with 40 employees, they have 130 customers with circa 35,000 users. Most of the customers are headquartered in the UK or Ireland, but the product, Workspace, is used in 15 countries worldwide. Customers include Grimshaw Architects, Benoy, Osbornes, Midas, VolkerFitzpatrick, Severn Trent Water and Tesco Building Services.

When four business colleagues devised a plan to create Union Square in late 2000 it would have been difficult to predict all that has followed. Since our first Workspace order in 2001 we have not looked back showing consistent annual growth rates between 25−35%.

Workspace has matured with much of the input coming directly from a client base which stretches right across the AEC market.

Combining this with our committed focus on innovation and quality means it continues to dominate the UK market. 2009 saw the release of a brand new version, Workspace ix, and in Workspace 360 we are building a platform to secure our ongoing success. Our first User Group meeting in 2002 was a modest affair for 21 people. This annual event is now considered as not-​to-​be-​missed and, being supported by practically every client, draws over 150 into London from all over the UK.
