The Badger

Popped in for a drink and sat in some comfy chairs with no pressure to leave during our extended stay. Part of a chain and felt like it.

I’m afraid your all jesting, me & mr Hubby went for a meal last night.
candles glowing from all the tables, crackle of logs on the fires roaring away in all fireplaces. We had a brill meal each — again!
The server as ever was really nice and chirpy — ready to get you anything!
I had the whale of a fish with chips and mushy peas — struggles to get the lot down but made it in the end as the fish was cooked to perfection.
Mr Hubby had the chargrilled chicken — which obviously is proper chicken and not rubber microwaved rubbish people keep talking about but they obviously have never eaten at the Badger in a long time! doh!
Anyway his chicken was nicely charred and served with wedge style crispy chips a large field mushroom and peas and in a separate jug was Mr Hubbys choice of sauce… chestnut muchroom sauce… which hubby said was the nicest sauce he’s had in a long time. You could have also had tomatoes with it but hubby is alllergic to any food that is red (yeah right!) ha ha!
I had my usual cool cider and hubby has real, sitting by the roaring fire.
Food is cheap and the new saver menus throughout the day are a must have, I think the fix price menu for 2 courses — yes 2 courses is only £8 each… complete bargain as I know a few pubs in the close serve mains for £10 and are pathetic.
Looking forward to burn night menu, and future offers that you can get by becoming a friend of Vintage Inns on line… we’ve already had FREE Bailies coffee and a FREE bottle of Wolf Blass (not cheap wine).
How can you possibly go wrong.

Very much agree with the prev review that Badger at first look seems fab with good menu and nice situation. The food however inoffensive /​tasty is clearly part of a chain and replicated throughout the country (saw same menu in Scotland). So you know what you are going to get and it is not bad, is generally good but not ever a hidden local gem.

The Badger is ok if you havent got time or inspiration to go somewhere else. The food is typical of this sort of chain establishment. the menu at the Snowy Owl (same chain) a few miles up the road is identical-​having said that the beers and wines are pretty good if not a little pricey and if you go for a steak or gammon or even a Sunday roast you normally cant go too far wrong. People will fight you for the tables by the real fire in the winter which normally gives off a heartening crackle.
