Decent Chaps Jazz & Swing professional quartet perform nationwide with Jazz, swing, Latin, Ratpack, Boogie-​woogie, Jump-​jive 1920s — 1940s. Playing a large and varied repertoire on clarinet, saxophones, piano, flute, vocals, backing vocals, double bass, guitar & drums. We have played for Jimmy Carr, Freddie Flintoff, Kate Adie to name just a few and for weddings, dinner/​garden/​cocktail parties or anniversaries and birthday parties — no even too large or small. Our testimonials are excellent and the standard of music 1^st class!

We also teach clarinet, saxophone, flute, piano, cornet & trumpet to Grade 8 & Diploma.

We are also qualified woodwind and brass instrument makers & repairers.

History

Established in 2002.

Alan Walker has many years experience, playing all over the world in bands large and small and has toured as a member of Shakatak, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, The Supremes, Chantilly Lace, The Temperance Seven and the Memphis Belle Orchestra, (from the film Memphis Belle). He has also appeared in bands with Kenny Baker, Eric Delaney, Betty Smith, Tommy Chase, Buddy Greco to name but a few. Alan has also composed and played music for television and radio, including various drama and nature programmes. He and his wife Caroline formed the business in 2002 and offer Decent Chaps Jazz & Swing as a top class band, expert tuition in several instruments and qualified woodwind & brass instrument repair serving all of the UK, Silly Isles and Europe.

We have full Enhanced CRB/​DBS Clearance; Public Liability Insurance; all equipment PAT tested and Professional level members of The Musicians’ Union and NAMIR (National Association of Musical Instrument Repairers).

Business Owner

Alan Walker on clarinet, saxophones, flute and piano, has many years experience, playing all over the world in bands large and small and has toured as a member of Shakatak, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, The Supremes, Chantilly Lace, The Temperance Seven and with Kenny Ball. He has also appeared in bands with Kenny Baker, Eric Delaney, Betty Smith, Tommy Chase, Buddy Greco to name but a few. Alan has also composed and played music for television and radio, including various drama and nature programmes. He is much in demand for various shows, pantomimes etc and plays with several bands around the country.

For the last 13 years he has fronted his own band ‘Decent Chaps’ playing jazz, swing, ratpack, 1920s-​1940s, Latin & jump-​jive, travelling the country playing at various large and small events. Performed for Jimmy Carr, Freddie Flintoff, Kate Adie & Richard Baker and at many other high profile events.
