I used to really enjoy coming here as a student and it used to rival The Southfield for the top informal student pub spot. It has since been relaunched as a trendy student bar with the usual suspects of chrome, faze animal skin upholstery and purple up-lighting rearing their ugly heads. If you like your trendy bars then this seems like as good as any but for those who don’t I would avoid it if possible.

The dickens is very close to university and always a staple on a friday after our final seminar. The food here is actually quite good though a little basic and all the all the place is too expensive to stay for long. It does however always get packed tpo the rafters on a friday and saturday night and they have an extensive cocktail list to set you on on your way into town for the rest of your night.

always busy this student pub, surrouded by other bars on southfield road, also acts as a coffee house during the day, great place to relax with all different walks of life, easy access to town centre

This is a trandy bar on southfield road. This is central to students and attracts young professionals looking for somewhere good to start their night off. Serves food during the day and is popular with students. Has outside seating so is packed during the summer and is the place to be on bank holiday weekends! Toilets are anoying though as the lights are on a timers and can switch off on you.

This place has been growing in size for years, its got a good reputation with locals and students alike. It gets uuber busy though at the weekend that only adds to atmosphere. Recently they added the coffee shop on the side and this only has made it more popular over the years.

The Dickens Inn is perhaps one of the most known bars in Middlesbrough. It is located right beside the university so it is always good a good custom base weather is it day time or evening. When I was at university in Middlesbrough we quite often nipped into the Dickens Inn for a quick bit to eat and a drink. The service was always quick and polite, most of the bar staff were at the university so they were quite sociable. The Inn itself is massive with two floors(up stairs can reserved for private functions). The Inn has several different nights catering for all sorts of music and crowns. Mostly they get the trendy metro crown in; this is in the ideal location being so close to down and right beside the university. Friday and Saturday are busy night but surprisingly Sundays are normally packed, sometimes to back and you have to fight your way to the bar. Sunday seems to be a good night to go out in Middlesbrough if you don’t mind a little over crowding
