History

Established in 1780.

The Heights of Abraham. This location in Matlock Bath has been used for hundreds of years. It started its life with locals farming the land. Some of the farmers discovered Lead Ore (Galena) in the area and began digging in the early sixteen hundreds. The Lead Mines then later became Show Caverns during the Victorian Period, in 1780 the grounds became a Pleasure Ground and forest gardens were developed. Derbyshire’s oldest tourist attraction was born!
