The Heights of Abraham

I liked it here so much that I bought an annual pass. The cable cars provide a spectacular journey to the hilltop park, where you’ll find two caverns, a small museum, a gift shop, restaurant and café.
The food served in the restaurant and café is brilliant, especially the cream teas in the café, which you can enjoy on the balcony overlooking the beautiful countryside.
The guided tours of the two caverns are excellent, the guides were very entertaining and informative.

Great place to visit with family. We spend hours there and we will defiantly go back again. They’ve got a lot of open areas for kids to play, 200 years cave. Worth every penny. The Cable Car make it very unique.

The Heights of Abraham are the most famous tourist attraction in the very touristy spa-​town of Matlock.
Many a family comes from the surrounding cities of Manchester, Derby and Sheffield to spend the day exploring Matlock, and few can resist the CABLE CAR RIDE up to the attraction of The Heights of Abraham.
To travel on the cable cars and enter The Heights of Abraham, one has to part with a steep ten pounds. The cable car journey itself is great fun, and if you haven’t done it before, has novelty value, but if I’m honest, it’s the best thing about the entire place, and it only goes downhill (no pun intended) from there.
At the top you will find a shop selling memorabilia but as you can imagine this is largely tat, and much of it bears no relation whatsoever to the area or the place. You will also find a greasy canteen style café selling tea and coffee, baguettes, cakes, hot dogs, soups and jacket potatoes. The food is nice, but very overpriced, so expect to be stung yet again.
There’s also a restaurant, but its not much of restaurant as it only sells burgers, paninis and salads. These are nice, but also expensive, with a burger setting you back a good seven quid.
Your ticket also includes the chance to explore two old disused mines which are pretty interesting and definitely worth seeing, though half an hour is enough time to cover both of these. There’s also a rock museum, the boredom induced by which speaks for itself.
On the whole it’s a close call as to whether its worth it. Perhaps one should go once if in the area. The cable cars are good, and cost some millions to make, but its very expensive to go and once you’re there. Basically Unilocalers, I’m leaving it up to you.

The Heights of Abraham is varied day-​out experience, with cable car rides to the summit where there are playparks, two underground caverns with tours, viewing points, open parkland, cafes, gift shops and displays.
It’s great for kids from about 2 — 12, but is best experienced when the weather is good as most of the stuff is outdoors.

The Heights of Abraham is located in Matlock, which is in the heart of the Peak District in Derbyshire. If you appreciate fantastic breathtaking views & aren’t scared of heights, this is a great attraction for you. The ride takes you high up through trees & over the road & river to gain access to the caves. It lasts around ⁵⁄₁₀ minutes & the price isn’t too bad.

The Heights of Abraham is located at Matlock Bath on the outskirts of Derby.
If you are visiting Derbyshire for the week on Holiday and need something to do with the kids, this is superb as it will appeal to you as an adult also.
As you arrive in Matlock you will need to look for nearby car parks which can be difficult to find however there are some scattered around and fairly cheap. Once you have paid you find the Cable Car which will take you up to the heights!
Upon entering at a kind price there are MANY things for the kids to do. There are adventure playgrounds and nice walks around the grounds.
If you fancy an adventure you can enter the mines and walk through on tour with the staff who will give you stories of it’s pasts. There are 2 mines to explore and it is very exciting and interesting for both you and the kids.

i think this is very fun because the caves are very interesting and the cable cars are incredible i think because you get a great view of matlock and are a little scary when it is windy the prices are a bit over if you ask me because i think £7.50 is a bit much. but is a great day out because the caves are very interesting and i have been down them many times and never got bored of them! and on boxing day they have a great festival of boats on the river where you can throw eggs and flour at the people in the bouts and they blast you with water (funner than it sounds!) a great day out for anybody!

This is a great day out for all the family!
Watch out though of the cave tours as there are a lot of steps.
Lovely eateries, yummy ice cream & nice gift shopslots to see and do and WONDERFUL scenery!
The kids love the cable cars too

This is a place to go with the family as kids love it but then it is also good without :)
When I was a child there was no cable car and we had to climb all the way to the top. My mum, who was disabled, never got further than the café ¾ of the way up (it is still very difficult terrain for the disabled) but she would sit there happily, and chat to folk, in the sun. One guy once gave her some beautiful Blue John Stone for which the caverns are famous. We eventually frogmarched her to the top before she died. not of that!
Now adays you get an all in ticket where before you paid to get in, paid for cavern visits etc.

I think this is great value as you can stay all day and not get bored. combined with a wander around the town and it’s little shops (ignoring the NEWish smell of burgers and an arcade) and late in the year (late August) they have festivals with parades of illuminated, decorated, boats on the river sometimes fireworks and illuninated cliffs.
Other little places of interest too.
In all a different and fun day out.

This is one amazing place. It truely is. I loved it so much that I went there 4 times within 6 months. The views are breathtaking, the whole place is truely stunning. If you into walking up steep hills, natural and man-​made caves, then this is the place to be.
It is situated in the Peak District in Derbyshire. You can do so many things there including taking a ride in the cable cars, take a guided tour to spectacular showcaves, explore a vast area of wooded hillsides and mini waterfalls, explore the amazing views of the peak district, and of course enjoy a delicious meal or ice cream.
I do warn that you must be fit and able to breath normally, as walking up the hills can be very tiring and you could be out of breath after only few yards.
I really recommend this place to everybody to check out, and explore a part of england that is not yet known by many.
