Delicious home style rice and three. The menu changes every day but the quality doesn’t. Highlights include the incredibly tender lamb, aubergine with potato and okra stewed with onions. Ask at the counter for what’s in today, get there before 6:30pm when dishes start to run out. £5 for a heavy plate full, this is more of a café than a restaurant but only due to the décor, not the quality of the food. Manchester’s best curry café.

Every Sunday I can I’m here for lunch :-) Great Nihari with a 2 sauce style nowhere else can be bothered to do ! Beautiful garlic nan freshly made … And curries gently warming away in the pots to melt in the mouth perfection.

Don’t expect any fireworks or a fanfare. They aren’t the most talkative bunch. So what? They have tables and chairs! One of my favourite places to go for lunch on a cheat day. A delicious rice and 3 for £5.

An empty dive of a restaurant. The proprietor was nice, and the chicken and also the chickpea curries were excellent, as was the nan. The lamb was so-so. Got it all to go and sat in Picadilly Park.

Being an Indian and a food blogger with a mum who is a fantastic cook its definitely NOT easy to please me, especially when it comes to my Indian Food! But I have always said this place is one of those rare places in Manchester which makes the best and most importantly most authentic curries ever! It definitely doesn’t have the interiors or décor of fine dining like a lot of posh Indian restaurants in Manchester but one thing this place knows is how to make amazing food(I prefer this to a pretentious place with absolutely horrible food). And the best thing about this place is that its far away from curry mile(which nauseates me as an Indian because it makes me feel I am not longer in England) and situated right in the heart of Northern Quarter(Hilton Street). You should try their 3 curries with rice meal deal for just a fiver!(BARGAIN) or even try their individual dishes like Aloo Paratha or Dahi Vada(bet you don’t get these in most pseudo Indian restaurants here). To be honest whatever I have tried here I always loved it, especially I am a massive fan of their lamb curry and aloo methi(delicious) which comes with the 3 curry on rice offer. The portions are generous and if you are not absolutely starving then two people can actually share one plate. Verdict: Authentic Indian Food(authentic being the most important word here) for the price of a tiny and not so good sandwich from Starbucks!

First time in Manchester, England and looking for a place to eat. We alked by Yadgar and would have kept on walking since it look like a hole in the wall. But the wonderful smells and full of people — we decided to go in. Not sure what to order, we just took a variety from the hot buffet — the curries were fabulous(we had vegetarian to lamb). The prices were very very reasonable and we highly recommend you to visit this little gem.

Curries as they eat them at home. A Northern Quarter establishment there long before all the trendy bars. Don’t be put off by the décor, the curries are amazing and cheap, rice and 3 curries for under a fiver! Recommend the chicken, Keema(tends to have too much potato now), potato and cauliflower and lamb. Tend to scrimp slightly on portions so shaded to top spot by local rival This N That!

Of the Northern Quarter curry cafés, I would say the best options for a vegetarian are This & That and Yadgar Café. Both cafés offer ‘Rice &3 Veg’ curries plus chapati at under £5, and the quality and authenticity of the food in both places is fantastic as is the warm, close-knit feeling of their staff teams. What it comes down to is offering more vegetarian choices than the competition: This & That offers three *different* vegetarian curries each day of the week; Yadgar Café puts out a very wide choice every day of the week.(Note: both places offer non-vegetarian curries, etc but I don’t see any point in telling you ‘the kebabs looked good’ when I haven’t tasted them!) OK, so from the bain marie at Yadgar Café I had the choice of both plain and fried rice, okra, aubergine, spinach, dhal, channa and maybe some other vegetable curries, I forget. As I went back for seconds(at additional cost), I tried most of the above — all really good food. And their chapatis are excellent — they store them wrapped in a tea towel in the traditional way, which keeps them warm and tender. I will definitely go back to Yadgar Café both by myself and with friends. However, having eaten out in Indo-Pakistani and Middle Eastern places for the past couple of months, I’m starting to feel homesick for the girls back home — I need to visit Soup Kitchen!(see Unilocal

Ah, Manchester curries. I still maintain that no city does curries like we do. This is a great example because Yadgar is one of those sparse little Pakistani cafés a million miles away from Rusholme(that’s a figure of speech) and these hidden gems in the Northern Quarter are certainly worth a visit. The first thing I’ll say is that if you’ve got fussy kids, this is great. They will make up mild and milky dishes especially for them so there’s no excuse. I for one think it’s important to introduce unusual flavours to anklebiters early so a place like this is perfect for them, but I won’t get all preachy soapbox on you. I’m here to tell you about rice, bread, meat, veg and sauce. Secondly, it’s cheap. Mega cheap. You know this by now, all the NQ curry canteens involve spending peanuts to get great quality. The naan bread is legendary here and you must take some home for the evening along with a few kebabs and bhajis, because once you’ve had the curries for lunch say, you’ll be itching for a reminder of them in while you’re watching TV later on. Weirdly enough Yadgar actually means a kind of ‘remembrance’, so it’s a pretty clever name when you think about it. Sneaky curry canteen. As my father in law says, ‘Ah, old Indian secret, see.’
