Withington Post Office

Really good service, very helpful and polite. Friendly and smiling, which is nice nowadays! There is always a queue, so the only negative is the wait, but even that is bearable because they are so efficient. I have posted parcels for eBay, international post etc. and never a problem. I just hope they keep up the friendly and efficient service because that’s what stops people getting irate!

Let me tell you about the problems I have had a this place. They are not interested in running a service for the people of Withington. They are rip off merchants, only interested in making lots of money for their family! I have tried to post 3 ebay parcels at this place and have been sent away because they said the address didn’t exist on one of them (it did), on the other two they outright refused. They wanted the commission for themselves even though they are meant to provide a service! Do no use, please go to Fallowfield post Office instead, the staff are lovely and helpful.

Oh, I love me a good Post Office. The little critters are closing down left right and centre, and I was absolutely gutted when the one which lived opposite the Royal Apartments in Salford gave way to mere sandwiches and newsagentery. Where was I to get my Euros? What about that unfathomably large parcel I wanted to ship to somewhere silly? They might as well have trod upon my heart.
And then I moved to the South Suburbs, and discovered this little gem en route to the Wilmslow Road section of Withington, approximately 30 seconds stroll from my new home, right next to Deco. How boss is that? I can pop along, do something boring and Post Officey, and then treat myself to some vinyl or a classic 80s movie on DVD. This Post Office is a good-​un. Instead of simply being a small concession in a shop, as they so often are these days, Withington’s tiny treat offers everything the quintessential suburban Post Office should. Random accessories like scarves, rolls of Munchies and those After Eight sweets, a tiny bit of pick n’ mix, cards and stationery.
Plus the people who run it are nice. Everyone comes here, from students to old folk (who usually arrive at the same time mid-​afternoon), and it’s housed in a quaint little building. I’m definitely a fan. Withington Post Office, please don’t fall victim to this Post Office Plague that seems to be claiming so many victims. If I ever have to take a bus to post a letter, I’ll cry.

The Withington Post office is fantastic, whether youre a newly married couple wanting to send your driving licence applications in quiet surroundings before the big road-​trip honeymoon, or an older citizen just wanting a safe haven to draw your pension, Withington Post office has it all. And theres always something to see! Last time I was in there I saw a man with tennis elbow wearing a combover wig which accidentally slid off his head onto the head of a small child who happened to be eating black Grapes. The child had a small square of black grape stuck to his top lip, and this along with the wig made him look like a mini hitler. My girlfriend and I swear by this post office and you should too. You wont regret it!

The withington post office is very well maintained. Its always busy whatever time you go but still there are enough staff members to take care of you and you wouldnthave to wait that longer. They are very frindly and quick in the service. Whether you have to just post a letter or do a recorded delivery abroad its a very convenient location to go to. Its just off the wilmslow road. In the shop there is also gift items yuo can buy and some lunch like sandwiches, crisps, drink etc.

Thankfully there is still a Post Office (post offices I have learned are in fact subsidiaries of the Royal Mail, previously and briefly referred to as ‘Consignia’!) in Withington Village (despite fears of closure, political sparring talk or not and others seemingly closing by the day). Despite the global settlement of the ‘intra-​wap’ on our correspondence requirements there is always still a requirement for us, I hope, to pop a parcel down to the Post Office and send presents off on a new adventure to friends and relative up and down the country. It’s still nice to receive a hand written parcel/​letter from an old friend or family member and just as pleasant to send one off yourself (I’d looked on ‘real’ letter writing as a lost art form… I must admit to struggling on certain ‘elements’ of this ancient work flow!).
They’re very efficient also, at least in this ‘front end management system’ which the IT crowd would possibly refer it to as. I’ve sent no end of parcels off recently and they’ve all found their way to the intended recipients in no time. Hey, this olden days thing still works rather well!
Of course, these days the Post Office carry more than franking and weighing machines upon their shoulders; why, my local PO now offers me a vast collection of Buddhas and Ganeshs amongst the red tops, broadsheets, PC & Mac compatible paraphernalia and stationary. I’m sorted for A4’s and Rizzla’s too should I be inclined.
So I’ve sent off the younger daughters post modern crayon pieces for fridge adornment to ‘Nanny’ in Norfolk and I’ve picked up some heavily diluted cow juice and Evening News, I leave the PO and right next door is a cracking second had record shop. This pocket of Withington which just about retains the village feel has it all (before you, rather unfortunately, notice Subway approaching to your right).
This Post Office is also featured in an episode of Steve Coogan’s Paul Calf Video diaries (and allegedly raided by the aforementioned Calf too!).
Mothers day’s coming up so rather than using Amazon this time (I think she has every box set of Frasier now) I’ll buy a card and gift from the local high street and use the postal high tube to deliver them on this occasion at least.
