I LOVED this place! We stayed just next door and went in one night. Not only was Kirsten a great bartender but her and the regulars were so fabulous with us american tourists. lol I went back again and they had a band playing live music with great cover tunes. I can’t say enough good things about this place. And, I’m picky considering I made a living bartending for over 20 years and working in the service industry. This place is a must go to for a great beer and friendly awesome vibe. The live music one night was such a nice surprise as well! If you’re in Manchester definitely stop in and say hi to Kirsten!

Kirsten has restored the Unicorn to what it was. A good traditional pub as how they should be. Good ales and poeple, and always a warm welcome. I raise a glass to you Kirsten, and long may you be around. Be pround of what you’re doing. Cheers, Geoff xx.

We loved the Unicorn. We made it our nightly stop(we were staying next door) It had just the right amount of old man pub, and ridiculousness(ads for super cheap girly shots became a running joke over the weekend) I really don’t know what to say to sell this place except for this just the kind of place I wouldn’t mind doing a little day drinking that carried on into night drinking.

This is a down-to-earth little boozer just on the edge of the Northern Quarter which offers real ales and a cosy atmosphere but not much to get you hot under the collar. The food is very much limited to bar snacks and the odd sandwich, so if you came here looking for a Sunday roast your stomach might well continue to grumble. It has the ‘old man’s pub’ tag like a lot of these ‘alternative’ Northern Quarter pubs, and you can just imagine in a few years time when all the Odd and Trof dwellers have decided to become ironic and postmodern and descend on the littler places, those same old men being horrified at the noise and the tight jeans that leave nothing to the imagination and the asymmetrical haircuts. But before that inevitably happens, it’s a good place to relax and watch the world go by and on a bright and sunny day it has large open windows at the front where you can sit and soak up the rays.

A laaahhhhhhhvely little cosy pub. Good for taking a break from your shopping trip, for watching the match, and for when you want a driink in the Northern Quarter, without it feeling like You’re Having A Drink In The Northern Quarter, if you get my drift… It’s basically a little old man pub, with an emphasis on being comfy, cosy and having a nice drink. There’s a decent selection of real ales, if that’s your bag, and they do a decent G&T, though you might have to remind them to put fruit in it. This is a really cute place, though I think it suffers from its weird location; not quite NQ, not quite Market Street, and as a result can be a little dead occasionally.

What a name? This for me would place the unicorn in a league of its own in pub terms but I’ll talk to you about what its like inside as well. Indoors is a cosy affair with a good selection of ales. Food ain’t the unicorns focal point so it is restricted to a few crisps and sandwiches. They have a tv for afternoon sports and the staff are friendly, it makes a good retreat for Saturday afternoon shopping etc. You can’t find much to do with the mythical beast of one horn though.

The Unicorn Hotel is one of the more traditional establishments in the Northern Quarter. No chic updates or trendy eye catching décor for this pub on Church Street, no thank you. Some might describe it as a bit of an old man’s pub, especially compared to the rest of the nightlife within a quarter mile radius. I came here with a friend who used to live a few minutes from Oldham Street, off Ancoats and it was cosy and nice but not very exciting. At the Unicorn, you can have some real ale, some food but not a great deal on the menu and TV screens showing Sky Sports and the like. If this is all you need, try the Unicorn. Otherwise, only come here if you are a 45+ fairly grumpy man.

The Unicorn is located in the ever increasingly popular Northern Quarter in Manchester. I found this pub to be very cosy due to its traditional English pub décor. The pub itself is not overly big but still seems to be quite busy on the weekend, I have not been mid week but I imagine it always has a few people passing through. They offer a wide variety of drinks, I don’t think they offer a wide variety of food, it seems to be restricted to sandwiches and snacks(on the weekend anyway). The last time I was there was a Saturday and they had live football on which seemed to be the main focus. The pub itself has a friendly atmosphere and good environment for a Saturday afternoon for a friendly drink with the mates.
