Specialties
We specialize in craft beers and world beers with a range that includes English ales (bottled and draught), German, Dutch, Belgian, Norwegian, and American beers. We try as best we can to source our cask ales from microbreweries in the North and our selection varies from week to week. If there’s a particular ale you’d like to see, we’d be happy to do our best to get it in.
We have an extensive spirits selection including gin, vodka, scotch, bourbon, tequila and rum. We have a delicious cocktail menu inspired by Victorian sweetshop flavours and American classics. Our signature cocktail is the Earl Grey and Pear Martini — Tanqueray infused with earl grey tea mixed with pear liqueur and lemon bitters.
We also have a great range of wines and a selection of home-made bar snacks including popcorn, pickled eggs and pork scratchings.
History
Established in 2010.
The business was started by Ryan Thompson, former owner of the Art of Tea, and Nick Greenhalgh, former manager of the Bay Horse.
The bar is located in the former kitchens of the Wood Street Mission — a Victorian institution which began helping street children in 1869, giving them food, clothing and presents at Christmas. The Wood Street Mission was kind enough to donate some information and photographs which are exhibited in the bar.
