Sweet Tooth Cupcakery

I was so excited about trying this place out and after work one Saturday afternoon I decided to pop in on my way home. It was just after 5pm and the place was still open — wooo!
I wandered in and saw two cupcake stands full of cakes at the window and saw one I wanted, picked it up and started to wander over to the counter when I was told in rude and a little bit aggressive voice «You can’t take those cakes off the stands, they’re for decoration only» to which I replied «oh right, sorry» to which the girl behind the counter scoffed. I decided to give the place a second chance after being a little offended by her and asked which cakes were available to buy to which I received a glare and «those» in a very stuck up tone. I left immediately.
I hope the woman behind that counter either got a rude awakening from her manager in to being a LITTLE bit nicer to customers or was fired. No one should have to put up with that kind of service. The northern quarter has a stuck up air around it in many shops but I have never dealt with anyone like that before, especially when I wasn’t rude, didn’t have a tone to my voice and smiled when I asked questions, as well as being polite. Maybe their spectacular cakes have saved them from going under but if they’re not this may be an idea as to why it might in the future. Why give miserable people jobs with the public? Seriously unimpressed.

Unilocalers, you might have seen me mourn in the past that Manchester, nay, the United Kingdom even, is severely lacking on the cupcake front. Meh, I know London probably has it covered, but if I saw one more Greggs or stale supermarket Yum Yum I’d have gone spare. Then, like a beacon of light in the grey Manchester rain came Hey Little Cupcake, a pop-​up shop in our business district, Spinningfields. I fell in love.
Then I trundled off to the Northern Quarter and met what would be the dating equivalent of its equally hot sister, Sweet Tooth Cupcakery and Milk Bar. Uh-​oh. Too much of a good thing? Yes, but when is that a negative point? I know the outer burbs have cupcakeries, patissiers and bakeries aplenty, but if you’re after some sweet city centre action, pop to Hey Little Cupcake for nouveau artsy chic, and get yourselves over here for pretty and vintagey whimsy. I’ve tried both their offerings, and I honestly can’t say I prefer one over the other. They’re both stupendously awesome.
Sweet Tooth Cupcakery is situated at the side of Pop Boutique, meaning its cutesy mismatched surroundings are complemented by waves of vintage clothing within head-​turning distance, and this makes the experience all the better. The staff are friendly and warm (and stylishly attractive too), and if that’s not enough, the cakes are ridiculous. Pure indulgence, bite after bite. I tried an amazing chocolate concoction made with almond flour which I was told gave it a dense, brownie-​like texture. It certainly did. And it was a little drop of heaven. You’ll also find cheeky hot drinks and milkshakes and it’s certainly a place to settle down, stare dreamily at the adorable décor and nibble away at some naughty delights. Great value and truly a must if you’re a baked goods fan who happens to be wandering round the Northern Quarter.
