I’ve heard good things, so set out with friends for a pint on a sunny Sunday afternoon, only to be met at the door by a staff member who told us we had to get off the premises immediately because we had a child with us. Family unfriendly to the max.

I remember when this pub was called the Valley Lodge(If I am not mistaken) Its a typical locals pub which isnt a bad thing. The vault was an unwelcoming place purely that I was a stranger and it was a locals place. I have always enjoyed a night here but the landlord is a strange little man with an attitude. That is its only downside.

I’m a sucker for a good old man’s pub, and whilst the Sun in September will never win any prizes for its décor, it’s definitely a damn fine place for a natter over a pint of Nut Brown ale. Plus, being a Sam Smith’s you’re always guaranteed to get change from a fiver when it’s your turn to get a round in. Best of all, around winter time there’s always a roaring fire in the grate and a Darts Board in the back room. The bar staff(and the locals!) tend to be a friendly bunch — particularly if they’ve got a few drinks down them. The landlord also appears to be rather fond of a game of his own devising called«Sticky». Lord knows how the rules work, but it appears to involve a 2p coin and some sellotape. In terms of food, it’s pretty standard pub fare, although they do a cracking Sunday Lunch, complete with homemade Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Be sure to try the Sam Smith’s organic cherry beer whilst you’re there as well — slightly tart and deceptively delicious, it’s one of the numerous hidden charms of the Sun in September.

This is a great little pub — although I have to point out that I have only ever been for a few pints(around an hour) at a time and I have never eaten at it. But if you are just after exactly that — a pint or two with a few mates then this is a nice pub. Its a Sammy Smiths so when you get change from a fiver for 3 pints you can’t complain!(Dec 09) Only drawback is the lack of a licence to allow people to drink on the grass around the side(the only bit that won’t be in shade — whenever there is sun!) So it doesn’t quite live up to its name! However; friendly(as far as Burnage goes…) staff, warm fire in the winter and a dart board in the back room.

I have been here quite a few times and it isnt a great pub to spend any length of time in but for a quick drink it is ok. The décor is dreadful, lots of wood and old tatty chairs. The place could do with a bit of a make over so it looks a bit more modern. Quite a few locals drink here, the prices of drinks are cheap but never tried the food. It is quite small inside too and the service isnt overly quick. I was waiting at the bar a number of times to get served but there were no bar staff to be seen. Went to the pub quiz here once which wasnt bad but seemed to go on for ages, they should cut it down a bit. There is a car park on the premises.
