Would’ve given this place one star if it weren’t for the entertainment. The food was very salty and very generic. The chefs were very entertaining and pleasant with a sense of humour :) The sushi was ok at best. I wouldn’t return here for the food. 2 stars for the entertainment.

Amazing meal for my boyfriend’s birthday! Really special place for a celebration — the staff know how to put on a show. We booked a table for 7.30, and they seem to gather people who arrive at a similar time around the same big square table. That way, the chef has a full house and there’s a good atmosphere when the fun begins! The menu is pretty extensive; they have lots of Chinese dishes and sushi, but the set menus seem to be the thing to do. We had eyes bigger than our bellies and went for the Samurai, which is the second to last menu on list! We really ordered a ridiculous amount of food — miso soup, sushi, seafood, steak, all the sides and dessert — but every single dish was delicious. Washed down with a nice bottle of rosé it was a really tasty meal. What makes Sapporo though is the live cooking! The chefs have amazing skills and they know how to make everyone laugh. They even throw food into your mouth! A real show-stopper of a restaurant, can’t wait to return one dau

Fantastic food fantastic atmosphere. All the food is cooked right in front of you. It’s brilliant the way the chefs do it adding a bit of fun and entertainment whilst they cook. The service was great. A most enjoyable evening if you’ve never been here you have to try it you won’t be disappointed.

My second time coming here, 1st time was about four years ago. As it was my daughters birthday she decided on this restaurant because she wanted the fun factor. … Our group of 12 met in the bar area for drinks until our table was ready. it was Saturday night so it was very busy, we waited a while but it was worth it. We were seated and ordered, our personal chef arrived at our table and the entertainment began, it was amazing he was throwing potatoes into our mouths(I missed).then he made flames that were phenomenal. .and cooked our egg fried rice in front of our eyes. I ordered the salmon starter and the duck with raspberry sauce for my main. it was delicious and plenty of it to. Everyone throughly enjoyed the evening it was a great night.

There is no need for half the stuff the chefs do, half the time I was just sat waiting for my food whilst the chefs where too busy ‘entertaining’. it’s pointless. You do that stuff for babies and toddlers. This was a table full of adults. The food was pretty good. I had several items from the sushi menu, sashimi, steak and lobster. I was quite happy with it all. The steak caused problems as I wanted it rare. I suppose to all the monkeying around the chefs do the atmosphere is all buzzed up. The bar is amazing, good selection of Japanese whiskey, sake and various other alcohol. I spent at least two hours after my meal having a good natter to one of the bartenders. All in all good experience. Just get rid of the clown act.

I’ve passed this place a thousand times and always promised myself I would try it one day. Yesterday was that day. I was expecting the utensil theatrics and the ‘hup hup hup’ noises from the chef as he performed his little show. What I wasn’t expecting was food being thrown at me. The chef flips pieces of fried potato at every guest, whether you want to play or not. I’ve never been able to catch food with my mouth, so a chef flicking piece after piece of hot potato chunks at my face isn’t my idea of a good time. Permission wasn’t asked, it’s just done. I swatted away 2 pieces and caught a third with my hand before a final piece hit me square between the eyes. Next, as egg was being chopped for the fried rice, a piece of hot scrambled egg was flicked at me and went right down my shirt. The sushi was absolutely amazing, but not a fan of the chicken roll. The lobster and prawn were gorgeous and super-fresh. The steak was a great cut of beef although a bit more seasoning would have been appreciated. I was far too full for dessert, but others said it was delicious. I doubt I’ll go back as the theatrics detracted from interaction with the others at the table(if you can call it that). And there were plenty of elbow clashing as the seats are painfully close to each other. I found a piece of potato in my handbag later on… one of the many missiles that missed its target. But the food was outstanding.

if you want Japanese food, definitely avoid this place. Not worth for money if you choose teriyaki and soup. Receptionist is cold. When we tell him our feeling, he became arrogant. If you want have a happy tasting experience. Avoid, although it looks fancy outside with chefs cook by the grill. You can also see my pic. Grill, not many choices as well…

This was the evening stop, after a days sight seeing of Liverpool over the Christmas period(yes it’s taken me this long afterwards to write this review: O). Having been to similar a teppanyaki restaurant in Leeds, Sapporo was a similar affair. I only ordered the chicken in teriyaki sauce from the teppanyaki section, as I already filled up form the food at the Christmas market! In addition to the meat, you get vegtables, potato discs and egg friend rice. The food was nice, but I expect you wouldn’t get full from just a main dish, and that you’d need to order a set meal, which at the time they only had the most expensive set meals — «emperor» and«samurai» — I wonder why that is? Something fishy was going on! As with all teppanyaki restaurants, you get live entertainment from the chef, which can be amazing if done right, but I thought the chef we had on the night was abit creepy at times! But he did try nonetheless, the highlight being dimming the lights, creating a big fire, and then surprising us with a blonde wig on! At times the service could have been more slick and efficient, but with a party of 15, they managed ok. Overall it was nice, but for what you pay for, it could be more reasonably priced, but it would be nice to come again if they had the rest of the set meals on sale!

I always have time for this place, and have always received the best service from such friendly waiters and chefs. Seriously, if this was an eBay transaction I’d give them an A+++++++ for effort, style and general pizzazz! But I’m not on eBay, so will have to personify my adoration for this restaurant through a meme: Enjoy ;-)

Organising a group meal for 18 can often be tricky, but Sapporo rose to the challenge. Our group filled an entire ‘pod’ and we had a variety a dietary requirements. Once we had all arrived at the venue, the bar is a lovely place to wait, we were shown to our table. The initial round of drinks and menu questions were dealt with very efficiently, and vegan diners made aware of the suitable items on the menu by the chefs. As such all meat and fish was cooked on one side of the teppan grill, and cleaned with separate cloths, to the other. The food was excellent, there was a little slip up with the timing of the starters but overall service was good. It would have been nice if the staff had come around for another drinks order after the first course, as some members of the group got impatient and went up to the bar to order. The sake was really good, plenty of spice at a warming temperature. As people were leaving at different times we each paid for our own meal on the way out, which luckily worked out exactly right. Would love to go again for the sushi, but with a smaller group next time!

Sapporo Teppanyaki is definitely one of those places you must check out at some point, and I’m glad I did. The fillet steak was absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend it, cooked teriyaki or as was subsequently recommended, with garlic and chilli, if it were not for the steep price tag(£22) alleviated on the occasion of our visit by a January 20% discount. I thought the sushi platter was decent although the pieces were quite cold which made me think it had been pre-prepared. The chicken gyoza were nice. What I didn’t like so much was the side dishes — I didn’t think the rice, veg or potatoes were very good and where the steak wasn’t the biggest that’s a significant part of the meal, especially if you can’t afford starters. At this price, the whole meal should be delicious. Interestingly the chefs are apparently Vietnamese rather than Japanese, which I think kind of sums up how it’s a notch below authentic.

It had been ages since I last came here(well before my darker, pre-Yelp days). Even so, I had good memories of enjoying my meal and laughing at everyone who failed to catch a morsel of food in their mouths like something you’d watch at Sea World. Thanks to Emily B’s arranging, a gang of six of us came here one quiet weekday evening for sushi and more. With the exception of a small group and one couple, we were the only diners in there at 7pm. Though it felt very empty given how spacious the restaurant is, it didn’t take long for other tables to be filled by late eaters, so by the end it was probably over a third full. Ordering drinks at the bar seemed to take an age(all I wanted was a pint of lemonade), but once we were seated round the grill and food prep area the service greatly improved. All of us decided to get sushi platters to share for starters — they were all delicious and came with small dishes of dipping sauces. I could happily demolish these all day every day. Having ordered mostly beef and chicken teppanyaki main courses, our chef for the evening(the initially quiet and composed Alex) first started to grill a large batch of sliced potatoes, some of which would become the morsels of food I mentioned earlier. With repeated«Ohhhooos» and«yeeeah!“s(or «awwws» if you missed them, like most of us did) we attempted to catch them like ravenous sea lions. If you really don’t want to partake, just tell the chef before you find sliced potato in your face /down your top /on your lap. After this he expertly prepared our egg fried rice from scratch, before presenting the various cuts of meat and sizzling them on the grill to our personal requirements. Though my sirloin beef teriyaki was closer to medium well than medium rare, it was still gorgeous, as was the rice, vegetables and the portion of those pesky sliced potatoes. I really like it here, it’s somewhere that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is barrels of fun if you’re in a sizeable group. Might not be an ideal spot for a date night, especially if you find yourselves surrounded by Manchester Unilocalers acting like sea mammals.

I think Sapporo Teppanyaki is a great place to go if there is a group of you. Good food and a bit of entertainment too. You get your chance to try and catch some sauteed potatoes in your mouth(I almost did it, so close) and also the chef entertains with his catching eggs in hats and generally spinning things about! I went on Tuesday with a group of people. There were 6 of us. One of the reasons we decided to come was of the 20% off food offer. I have been to Sapporo before but not for a long time. I have had teppanyaki before and its one of my favourites — I generally like all Japanese food. I remember the first time having it many years ago when I lived in Taiwan. I still remember having it in a supermarket in the food court part. Tasted good and was very cheap. I have had it more recently(ish) in Hong Kong in a food court in a shopping centre and its cheap there too. On Tuesday, me and Laura F shared a mixed sushi platter roll which was really good. As well as the entertainment from the chefs, it was also quite entertaining watching Laura F try and use chopsticks. Full marks for effort and persistent!(Although she was better than the rest of us at the catching a potato in her mouth — not an actual whole potato BTW, a sliced potato). I am glad we went for a mix platter option so we could try some sushi we may not normally have. For the main, I went for a teriyaki sirloin steak which was pretty good. It all came with veg, sauteed potatoes and fried rice. Sometimes in teppenyaki, it can be too salty but it wasn’t this time which was good. My only complaint with the food(and its just a minor complaint) is that the fried rice was too buttery — so it was kind of like butter fried rice. Also, I asked for the beef cooked to medium rare but it was maybe just a bit more like medium. But it still tasted good. For drink, I had a pint of Asahi beer which is my favourite beer. It did cost £4.20 which I thought was a bit expensive.

Great food and good fun at a very reasonable price(with discount) — I cannot fault Sapporo Teppanyaki. When I saw on Facebook that there was a 20% deal in January I thought that I may as well strike while the iron was hot, and roped some Unilocal pals in as well. I started with the sushi platter, which I shared with Michael B. This was really tasty and also the pieces of sushi were huge, Making it better value for money than I expected. What I really wanted at that point was to continue eating sushi until the end of time, but I managed to find space in my heart for the teppanyaki. I failed spectacularly at catching the potato in my mouth — testament to my slow reflexes and poor coordination. One potato went missing and I was quite concerned I would later find it in my bra but thankfully it was under my chair. The potatoes, once the chef had stopped flinging them around and had given me a portion, were delicious and so moreish, especially with the garlic mayonnaise provided. I ordered rare sirloin steak with garlic and at the last minute the chef asked if I also wanted chilli, which of course I did. Having the meat cooked in front of me was good fun too. When it arrived on my plate it was so, so tasty. The chef had really piled on the chilli so it set my mouth on fire a little bit but I was happy nonetheless. Originally our chef seemed a little bit docile compared to the one at the grill opposite, though he perked up while he was cooking and overall seemed like a pleasant bloke, so I wasn’t too disappointed. Overall, with the discount applied, I paid £25 for the food + service charge*. I really can’t fault that price for the amount of food and the quality of it. Even without a discount I’d be happy to come back here for a special occasion or with a group of friends. *Not including a drink. A pint of Asahi was £4.20 which is expensive in my view.

What a fantastic evening! After a random conversation on Facebook, some of the other Unilocalers and I decided we’d make the most of January’s 20% off offer being ran at Sapporo and decided to book a table and meet for a catch up. I’ve been to this Sapporo Teppanyaki restaurant before, albeit a year ago, and remembered it being amazing Japanese food with incredible entertainment. And last night it was just as I remembered. The 6 of us — myself, Andrew Y. Michael B. Emily B. Natalie W. And Natalie’s friend Izzy, we’re all seated around the Teppanyaki grill and the waitress brought us the menus. Me and Andrew decided to share the Mixed Sushi Roll Platter as a starter. It was 2 pieces each of 4 different types of sushi rolls — so 8 pieces altogether on the platter. All of them were great! Very tasty and obviously very fresh too! I did persevere with my chopsticks, much to the amusement of the others, but I decided to give it up after dropping my Sushi about 10 times. Our Chef, Alex, was great throughout the meal. His knife skills were fabulous and he put on a great show flinging eggs into the air and catching them in his hat! He went around the table tossing the potatoes at each of us and we had to attempt to catch these in our mouth! I was the only one who managed to do it! *fist pump*(although Andrew came close) and thus redeemed myself for the chopstick fail. I ordered the Beef Fillet Teppanyaki for my main meal — which was cooked perfectly and was succulent and very well seasoned. The beef was served with sautéed potatoes, stir fried vegetables and egg fried rice, all of which were cooked on the grill in front of us and tasted superb. With the 20% off, my part of the bill came in at a more than reasonable price — and I’d be happy to pay that again for what I ordered and the service that you receive. Sapporo is a great place for a meal if you’re looking for a bit of fun as well as some amazing food. I can imagine it’s perfect for a works party or birthday gathering with mates.

wow… just wow… I came here purely because I wanted to try something new and special for a special occassion. afer using the powers of the great Unilocalness I found this place. Luckliy we booked online on their easy to navigate web page, because this place was packed, but considering its busyness this place ran like clockwork. Coming in from the cold, a well dressed lady at reception confirmed our booking and led us to the table. It was like checking in at a posh hotel… We were the first to arrive at the ”cook workstation’ and so we mooched at the menu. This place by the way has no one-to-one tables, so if you are not comfortable sitting next to strangers you may not want to come here. There were a couple of menus to choose from, the Christmas and standard. There is soo much choice its unbelievable! I strongly recommend you do a bit of research beforehand so you don’t feel rushed when choosing, as everything has to be synchronised with the other table orders. The waitress was a bit stiff but she took our orders efficiently… for starters we chose the Chef Selection Sashimi,(thank you Victoria for having that alluring pic of this !), spicy tuna rolls and tuna nigiri. I did fancy a sake to wash this down with but a 330ml bottle will cost you £15, a cup £2.50 or a bottle £50.so I chose Ashahi. By the time the food came, the other guests had arrived, and it was a nice layout because you could choose to interact with other diners or not… once everyone had settled in, two chefs appeared in the middle and started doing some fancy motifs with the eggs whites on the grill, and juggled cleavers. after cooking some thin slices of potatoes we were handed a plate full with an assortment of dips. For a bit of fun, they went round the entire table trying to score potatoes in peoples mouths… I failed… miserably… After this potato fest they started cooking the mains all at once… even this was entertaining to watch, from cooking the rice with egg, the vaiorus fish on one side and the meat on the other grill… I had the assortment of fish which had scallops, and two fillets of this other fish which I cannot place… my partner in crime chose the giant steak which was cooked flawlessly… Overall I enjoyed the experience, everthing was cooked very well and with such passion and entertainment… yes the food is little expensive but I think they need to be able to pay the chef’s for their skills too, because not everyone can play with knives without killing someone… there was also a 10% service charge… so I am now a £120 lighter, but hey its something you should do once… I won’t go back in a hurry because of the expense, but when I do I will go as a big group so we have the whole cook station for ourselves :)

What an awesome place! Picked this restaurant to celebrate an anniversary, wanting somewhere a little special and a little bit different — definitely chose well! You sit round a table that faces in to where the chefs cook your meal. I did worry that we might be a couple tagged on to a group booking but we seemed to be the ‘couples’ table of the night which worked well! The chefs are great fun and really put on a performance whilst cooking your food. We went for prawns in a chilli & garlic dressing to start along with edamame beans — delicious. We then both picked teppanyaki mains(you’d be a fool not to) — I had the rump steak and my boyfriend had the wagyu beef. Both were cooked to perfection and were perfectly complimented by the rice, stir-fried veg and potato slices that came with them(although have to admit we’d eaten a lot of the sides before the meat arrived — oops). A really fantastic evening — a little on the expensive side but worth it for a treat night!

Fab place for groups and if you like a bit of theatre with your meal– this place is always entertaining! Basically you are seated around live cooking stations and if you are having the teppanyaki, you pick out your meats(chicken, duck breast, pork fillet or lamb fillet) along with the sauce you want. All of the teppanyaki dishes come with egg fried rice, stir fry vegetables and sauté potatoes. Then you watch the chef prepare your meal right in front of your eyes, which is very impressive to watch. The chef throws sauté potatoes at you and you’re supposed to try to catch it in your mouth. The best bit is when he tosses an egg in its shell around with a spatula, before eventually catching it on the side and cracking it over the hot grill. A great Japanese restaurant if you like tasty food and a lively atmosphere, and aren’t looking for a quiet candlelit dinner. I had the chefs selection of sashimi and some edamame too– all delicious!

In a sentence, I’d summarise Sapporo Teppanyaki as overpriced but enjoyable entertainment, based around average food. Thankfully I have more than a sentence though. This place gets busy, and not always with the best crowd. It’s well suited for groups, with the large tables seating no less than 8 people and the cooking style meaning if you don’t have 8 people, you’ll be sitting with another group. We were a little worried on arrival as there were a large number of children’s parties in the restaurant, and were not interested in spending a decent chunk of change to babysit someone else’s kids. Thankfully we were worrying about nothing as a group of work colleagues sat opposite us, but it would make me cautious if we return. The restaurant is based around the teppanyaki style of cooking where a chef will cook your meal in front of you on a hot iron plate. It’s a novel idea and makes for a memorable meal the first time you experience it, but having been a few times now, that novelty has worn off and allowed me to focus more on the food. Basically, you order either a banquet(which consists of a starter or two and a main or two) or a single meat/fish main course. Everyone is then given fried potatoes, fried vegetables and egg fried rice to accompany the meal. The sides and the main courses are all cooked in front of you, so the quality of ingredients always at least looks good. The problem is, the high temperature cooking limits the chef and much of the food ends up tasting the same. The chef also acts as entertainer, and they can range from hilarious to obviously bored/uninterested. Sadly, you can’t decide what to pay based on the chef’s energy levels so a bad one can ruin a still expensive meal. It seems to be consistently popular and busy, so they’re pretty prompt at asking you to leave your table as well in order to prepare for the next group. At £140 for 4 people, it wasn’t exorbitant, but I certainly wont rush back. It’s one of those places you have to try once, but once is definitely enough.

This is THE place to go in Manchester if you want chips thrown at you. In fact you could call what happens here ‘Food Jitsu’! It’s a really fun place that manages to create something unique for our Manc community. I’m not sure why it’s so fun to watch chefs throw my food around… Maybe it’s because my mum used to yell at me for playing with my food! Oh the fun with Turkey Dinosaurs… Anyway… This is not a date place and is DEFINITELY a party place. It gets busy so book ahead. The food is good but not amazing and the service is fun! It’s like watching The 3 Stooges cook your steak.
