My favourite independent wine shop — lucky me, it’s five minutes from home! There’s a great selection of wines and spirits and the staff are always very helpful and listen to me witter on about the food I want the wine to ‘match’. I’m a cheapskate and rarely spend more than £8 and there are bottles from £6 up to whatever you may wish to spend.
There are frequent events for which you need to buy tickets as well as plenty of free tastings. Bulk discounts and delivery too!
Don’t be intimidated by visions of snooty wine sellers, this is a very friendly and pleasant shopping experience.

A true West Didsbury institution, Reserve pride themselves on making wine accessible to everyone.
I must admit that the concept of going into a specialist shop and being met with floor to ceiling shelves of wine can seem daunting to many at first — but the guys here are excellent at finding out what you like and making suggestions if you’re not sure.
Every bottle on show has a colour-​coded label below it, so you can easily see what price bracket it is as well as the actual price. Some have additional ‘tasting notes’ so you can find out more about them.
Alongside the innumerable bottles of red, white, rosé, sparkling wine and Champagne they also stock various spirits, bottled beers, cordials and even Japanese sake).
They regularly host tasting events in the shop — look out for these advertised on Twitter (@ReserveWinesUK) or sign up for their regular newsletter via email.
There’s something on their shelves to suit everyone, and they only sell quality produce from around the world. I know for a fact that they taste them all beforehand so you can be assured that they meet their seal of approval!

I was gobsmacked when I was told how long Reserve had been sat on Burton Road in West Didsbury for. I’ve walked passed numerous times and never even noticed it!
I joined a champagne tasting here last week and love the ‘feel’ of the place. All wooden floors and display units with colour coding so you know what price region the wines are before trying to hunt out the price. There is a fabulous selection of wines from around the world including a beer and champagne selection as well as chocolates to buy, what’s not to like?
They do monthly tastings that are exceptional value. The champagne tasting was £20 with lots of drinks to try as well as a fish supper from next door and a discount on champagnes ordered on the night. I bought the cheapest champagne on offer… not because it was the cheapest but because it was my favourite and at £26.99 it was a crime not to bring it home.
The staff are incredibly knowledgeable offering their support and gift ideas as standard. You can’t get that in most supermarkets nor will you find most of these exceptional wines. Pop in and see what I mean.

Reserve is a fantastic wine shop set in West Didsbury that has stood the test of time by offering excellent service, a great range of wines and beers and being everything a traditional independent is supposed to be!
I popped in one Saturday afternoon to buy some wine for an event I was doing and have to say I was impressed by all of the options open to me. My wife is quite the wine expert (WSET as well as loving a nice glass or two) so I probably should know more than I do about it all but I know that «I like what I like» and I’m starting to really get into the whole food matching thing!
We were offered the option to taste a few on the counter at the back (don’t miss it if you want some nice free wine and maybe to make an informed purchasing choice) and the staff were so happy to help in terms of knowledge and getting the right wines for our occasion.
A great little shop that I’ll be hitting again soon, good to see the Brightside brewery well represented in here too as they’re really nice suds!

A great independent wine shop, with some of the most knowledgeable assistants I have met.
A small store with wines literally floor to ceiling. After initially walking in to buy wine as a present, I cursed myself for being well out of my depth when it came to knowledge of what I was looking for. A Pino blanc, or a Sauvignon de pape, maybe?! No clue. Whatsoever.
A quick chat with the person on duty, and I was swiftly sent on my way with an excellent bottle of wine well within my price range. Plus, some information on an upcoming wine tasting event to try and improve my knowledge.

I like wine. Im nearly in my mid 30’s so its one of those things thats expected of you I suppose. The problem is, Im pretty rubbish at knowing what I want if its not WolfBlass Yellow Label or a decent Rioja. Thats the extent of my red wine vocabulary. When it comes to White Wine, I know more about the economic status of Peru… and I’ve never been to Peru
With that in mind, Reserve is great for me. If I want a bottle to put with a meal, or as a present for a friend, they will know exactly what to suggest based upon what food youre cooking or what type of flavours your friend would like. Theres a great range to choose from which are sectioned based upon country, and then colour coded based upon price. My friends have always then complimented me on my choice of wine, which obviously I take credit for. Little do they know that if I hadnt visited Reserve they’d probably have ended up with Cava.
Its shops like this that make Burton Road great. Dont use the little Tesco near the bridge to choose wine unless you hate your friends/​taste buds, treat yourself to some good wine and go to Reserve

Another day, another wine shop. I love wine. Really love it. And though I would happily say I’ve rarely met a red I didn’t like, I can be picky as hell. Sometimes I really want to pick up a lovely bottle for a special occasion, and when I lived down Withington way, this was where I’d go.
It’s not as good as Nicolas in the Barton Arcade for range and expertise, but there’s a great range of wines on offer here, starting around the £10 mark.
They also do a tasting set; for parties, I suppose, which includes 6 ‘mystery’ wines, nicely wrapped, and a wine quiz, and a prize for the winner. Fun for a dinner party, or as a gift for a wine lover.
If you’re down this end of Withington, you really don’t have much choice when it comes to wine purchasing, so if you want something classy, this is your shout. Better than Somerfield any day.

There’s nothing better than a good independent wine shop to serve the local vino buffs. I’m not pretending to be any kind of connoisseur myself but it’s obvious to anyone with a vague interest in wine that the Reserve Wine Shop is a smart choice if you’re looking for something different.
There’s a great emphasis on family-​owned wines and unusual labels here, which have obviously been painstakingly sourced and tested for quality. Amongst their favourites are Bouscasse, Pacherenc ‘Brumaire’ 06, Amirault, Bourgueil 05 and Mount Horrocks, Semillon 05.
Beyond high quality wines, the shop also sells spirits, beers, and champagnes. A lot of the products are priced reasonably too, with special offers often posted on a blackboard outside.
