This will be a very short review as there’s not a lot else I can say about Mumma Schnitzel… It is AMAZING! The chicken is always perfectly cooked and very crispy. The best one in my opinion is the simple one with just lettuce, sweet chili and mayo. I’m knocking a star off as I think at £8.50 for a chicken burger and chips is a little expensive even though it will be the best you will have ever tasted…

It’s back! Now located in the kitchens at Leftbank and not a van where it used to be in spinningfields! The classic chicken sweet chilli Mayo is delicious. One of the best chips I’ve had in town too! Very casual atmosphere and chilled place. Also on Monday 12pm-3pm Chicken Sweet chilli Mayo 50% off!

Finally I tried the famed chicken burger! One of my friends is obsessed with it and previously introduced me to the lovely owners at Friday Food Fight(they weren’t even on that night, just being foodies!). I was very impressed with the quality and taste of the chicken and as I just yesterday was 100% converted to the deliciousness of brioche when I sampled a dessert one at a lunch it was excellent that it was involved again. Slightly messy eating btw, luckily I had wet wipes with me, as I have the eating grace of a 5 year old. I could maybe have done with slightly more chilli or other form of punch but overall well worth a stop for lunch, tad expensive just for the burger but worth it for a treat.

Mumma Schnitzel is a most welcome addition to the fast growing Manchester street food scene. These guys have been around for a while now, usually sited in a nice old Citroen van in Spinningfields hoping to grab the lunchtime trade in the busy business district. Specialising in chicken burgers with a few sides you don’t waste too much time making your mind up what to have — though there’s always a special on there to entice you with some amazing sounding toppings. I usually stick to the Mumma Burger, which is their standard chicken burger — free range, juicy chicken thigh(the best part of the bird) covered in seasoned panko breadcrumbs and paired with a drizzle of chilli sauce & mayonnaise on a soft brioche bun. It’s absolutely heavenly and doesn’t need any additional fluff. If you can’t resist the super-sizing of your burger(I blame SoLiTa) then there’s additional options including an extra schnitzel(greedy guts), avocado and halloumi, They also do a halloumi burger if you’re that way inclined. The monthly extras get fairly gluttonous too, but you’ll have to check their specials board or Twitter account for details. Prices range from about £5-£7, plus more for chips, which I think is getting on the steep side for a work time lunch on the move, so I don’t tend to eat here very often when working. Luckily for me Mumma Schnitzel have started attending some of the street food events around Manchester including the recent Friday Food Fights at Upper Campfield Market and the upcoming Guerrilla Eats, where I’m much more likely to part with the best part of a tenner.

Oh my goodness — how has this not been reviewed yet?! Mumma Schnitzel is taking on the challenge of providing really great Street Food — and certainly seems to be a contender… Situated in Spinningfields, near more established(but if I can be so bold) less exciting competition such as Pret a Manger, Mumma is taking the specialisation route to greatness by offing a limited choice, but doing it really well. There are only really two choices, and one side; Chicken Burger, Halloumi Burger and Triple Fried fries. I can’t comment on the veggie option, being a life long carnivore and all, but the chicken is brilliant! A thin, crispy panko style coating, sweet brioche bun, tangy mayo and crunchy lettuce make this to die for. The chicken comes from the thigh rather than breast, so you get a much juicier eating experience. The fries are awesome — I know that frying something three times must be disastrous for your health, but you have to try them… They do weekly specials(all on the chicken burger theme) to mix things up, and a meal deal for the burger, fries and a canned drink. Mmmmm. It’s not a cheap burger, but it doesn’t taste like one — if you want that, maybe head on over to KFC; if you’re looking for a bit of a treat, this is the place for you.
