Goof place to go for a midnight feast :). Reasonable prices and food tastes good. Not somewhere I would go for a planned event more of a sporadic type venue.

My husband and I were referred to this restaurant by the owner of the flat we rented on air bnb for our 4 day stay in Manchester. We went there as soon as he told us about it. I loved, loved, loved the won ton soup. It was a wonderful light broth, not salty, thank heaven, and the won tons had delicious prawns in them, unlike the heavier pork ones I’m used to. We also tried some dim sum which i didn’t like as much. My husband ordered the tripe dim sum and while I usually don’t eat tripe, this was tender, served with a touch of delicious ginger broth with long thin slices of ginger. It’s better than any of the dozens of Chinese restaurants I’ve gone to in NYC and San Francisco. This is a high compliment, considering that these cities have many good ones. So good it was, that we returned for dinner and had more of the delicious won ton soup. This time we also had some of the plain fried rice(yum) and char siu, an excellent roasted pork dish presented in slices with a bit of delicious marinade and peanuts. It wasn’t gluey, like so many of the Chinese sauces in the US and the flavor was excellent. Kwok Man is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Manchester, and our landlord who is from Singapore said it is totally authentic. Despite the 3 kinds of dim sum I didn’t like, this restaurant is worth coming back to Manchester for.

I don’t know about oldest Cantonese restaurant in the city but it’s definitely been here at least 18 years. I believe Kwok Man’s was one of the first places me and Hoang family frequented. However sad to say, it’s no longer given consideration. Recently I’ve been in Kwok Man after a late late night. It’s ridiculous to feel like eating Chinese at 3am and even more so to come in and have a sit down meal when you can’t focus on the other person. Kwok Man’s at night was very busy as all the late night munchies kick in. The menu is therefore a little limited and for the quality of food we had, not so great. It was in fact awful. I actually could tell how recooked or a little stale some dishes were like they’d been reheated. Worst of all the bill was huge. Definitely charging for late night peak time dining. Did the trick overall I guess.

Excellent Chinese restaurant very close to Chinatown. Its one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Manchester. Its a good place to go after a night out. Not exactly sure what time it closes but been there after a night out(Friday/Saturday) at around 4am. Also, had a few takeaways from here. Nice big portions.

Kwok Man… good times. I’ve never been a huge fan of Chinatown, there’s too much of it and I don’t know where’s good so I tend to just get a takeaway(Blue Ginger… mmm) and curl up at home. However one night I finished work at 3am and a couple of the girls wanted to go for a Chinese, someone suggested Kwok Man and everyone else agreed… so off we went. At first I thought it was a little strange, it’s located right next to lavishly decorated Yang Sing so it was bound to look a little tacky… the cheap Chinese knick knacks don’t help as you’re wandering down the stairs. But we were greeted warmly despite the hour and escorted to a table. I was not only surprised to find the restaurant busy, I was more surprised by everyone’s behaviour! This was 3am on a Monday night/Tuesday morning, just after the two most popular student nights in Manchester have finished and thousands of people are wandering the streets looking for anywhere to go but home. You’d think it’d be mayhem but everyone was calm and when anyone did start to get a little rowdy they were told quietly to behave or else. Anyway, the menu selection was pretty good so we ordered a mix of starters and mains and asked for everything to come together. We were brought some complimentary prawn crackers to nibble on whilst we were waiting but the wait was not ridiculously long at all and everything was perfect. Couldn’t fault it at all. The prices were reasonable really, more expensive than a takeaway but that’s always the case and this was much more enjoyable. I’ve since been back quite a few times, I often find myself wanting Chinese at the end of the night now I know Kwok Man exists. Every time I’ve been I’ve had the same consistently good service with reasonably priced, tasty food! A winner!

The kwok man is situated on the next block to Yang Sing. It has a flight of stairs leading down into the restraunt. It has been made a little bit wider since it opened many moons ago. The decoration is very plain. It is opened till the early hours of the morning. They serve a wide range of dim sum and eveing meals for the chinese diners and more westernised style of chinese food for others. I am not sure how long they have been around but even I remember it from my young days The long flight of stairs down to the restraunt means that those who are disabled cannot get down easily. This compared to the yang sing is very simply decorated but the service is a lot better and the staff treat the chinese diners a lot better than Yang sing do. Good for late night suppers!

The Kwok Man(Brothers) Ltd Restaurant is situated on Princess Street near the Yang Sing Chinese restaurant. It is not the easiest of restaurants to get into, as there are some steep stairs and so anyone who is in a wheel chair cannot possibly dine, unless there are some strong people will to help them get up and down the steep stairs. Those with limited mobility and use a cane may also give it a miss, but they could possibly manage to go in, as there are hand rails and you can take your time and the stairway is wide, so others can easily pass by. Saying all that, it is certainly worth the trip downstairs, as the food is wonderful and the staff are helpful and attentive without being in your face. Altogether great food, great atmosphere and frequented by many Chinese diners which says it all!

There is nothing quite as comforting as Dim Sum at Kwok Man, situated just off Chinatown. The décor is not exactly perfect — it is very bare, but the Dim Sum is the best in Manchester. There’s nothing poncey about this restaurant — it is all about the food. There is also the standard restaurant menu with all the classic dishes, should that be more of your thing, but I fully recommend the Dim Sum! You get a slip of paper and tick of the dishes you want. It is similar to Tapas, and 3 little dishes is normally enough for one. One plate costs around £2.50.
