hidden inside oxford road precinct is this chinese takeaway/restaurant. inside is fairly large that looked pretty clean, they have the usually food that you would find in a chinese restaurant although i was just passing through so i just got a sandwich. I was a bit annoyed when they gave me my sandwich toasted when i never asked for it like that! would of been firm with them if it had been a meal otherwise they were polite. might give them another chance next time am passing and will go inside and eat a proper meal. watch this space!

happiness café’s variety is limited and the food is no where near compared to the best Chinese spots in Manchester none the less it does the perfect job by providing me a qucik, cheap and somewhat tasty meal in-between my lectures, the service is fast and the view is great therefore due to all these factors i will rate this place 5 stars mostly because of the value of money it provides :)

Do you want Chinese food? Do you want sticky, salty batch-prepared Chinese food? Do you want to eat this sticky, salty batch-prepared Chinese food overlooking the Oxford Road corridor? You do? And through a dirty window, you say. Then look no further. At Happiness Café Restaraunt you can eat prawn toast and chow mien whilst watching the Magic Buses sail majestically past. It’s almost like being at the Cloud 23 Hilton Skybar, except you can’t get spring rolls there. Actually, you probably can if you’ve got enough money. At lunchtime for under £5 you can get a dish plus rice or noodles and a soft drink and for just under £7 you can get the same but with a starter. It’s cheap and cheerful but so am I. Actually, I’m not that cheerful. Definitely cheap though. When ordering your free soft drink don’t ask for a coke or a diet coke, it’s just own cut brand cola which as we all know tastes like drip-tray leavings. I don’t want to be the coca-cola snob here but somebody has to be. Get a lemonade instead, cheap lemonade is much more forgiving. Also lemonade just goes better with Chinese food.

When you’re bored of those quick lunches by running to Tesco’s and filling in with a sandwich, during the rush Uni hours, I’d say Happiness Café in the Precinct Centre has always made me, well, Happy! It’s the regular Chinese restaurant which can savour any taste buds(I might be biased to this since I happen to love Chinese food) ! But the main selling point which I have noticed in these one and half years are the Paninis it sells outside the restaurant as a takeaway and I would like to tell you that this is their strongest point! Enter after 3pm and you will barely see any left and it WILL disappoint you! Though a very important mention would be the prices slash to half as well after the given time, so in case it happens to be your lucky day, you just might get your favourite pick for half! Personally, I love this place and it’s great for those in between lecture lunches! Run my friends, give this a go!

As I have stated before, I do love my Chinese food. One day I hope to travel round China visiting all of the little proper cafes and complaining that it doesn’t taste the same as back home, and therefore must be wrong. Until that day I have to make do with the places I can find dotted around Manchester. This is a fairly standard Chinese café which offers the usual meals as well as paninis, oddly enough. If that isn’t a selling point I don’t know what is, because it’s not exactly the world’s greatest. Of course, if everywhere had to be the world’s greatest place to do well in my opinion, I could very well be told where to get off. I can say that you’ll most likely enjoy it if you’re a fan of the food, and that it’s of reasonable cost. Make of that what you will.

Chinese food can be like drug addiction for me, often when the lunch bell tolls I’ll find myself heading here for a taste of the orient. Most of the time you grab your food from the front of house and go chill out on the benches around the show but there is a back section if you fancy a sit down in the warmth. They do wicked chicken and sweetcorn or hot and sour soup and also loads and loads of different Panini’s all lined up, chicken and bacon is the best in my opinion but it’s cheap as chips costing you no more than £1.50 to £2.00 for a big Panini, o they also do chips as well. Happiness indeed.
