We were having a stroll around the Arndale, discussing our budget for the wedding. One of the items that came up was wedding bands. I remember we had walked through the Arndale over Christmas and I was not feeling the selection of engagement rings they had, so I didn’t think we would find our wedding bands here. For some reason, I don’t remember looking in the windows at Ernest Jones during the engagement ring shopping, but we did spy some wedding bands for Mr. Snarky to try on.
We saw even more rings of interest when we went into the store, and interestingly enough, they had a ring that looked a lot like the wedding bands I had pinned onto my Pinterest board. Yes, I am addicted to Pinterest, particularly for wedding planning and ideas. Anyway, it was around the same price as the ones I had spotted online, so I decided to try it on for sizing purposes. I think the moment I slipped it on, Mr. Snarky knew I was sold. It was even the correct size, so no resizing (and resetting of stones) and no waiting on an order.
While the lady who assisted us should get five stars for patience with us, I got the feeling that she was not as knowledgeable about the jewelry as she should be. I guess the average customer may not know what questions to ask, but I do think it is important that they do know as much as possible because jewelry is a significant purchase in one’s life. I asked some questions, some of which I already knew the answers to (I worked in the jewelry department of a couple of department stores while in school) and some of which I wasn’t completely sure. She didn’t sound so sure when she answered questions that I knew the answers to… for example the hardness of some of the metals and will they scratch easily.
She did help Mr. Snarky find out what size ring he should wear, but unfortunately they only store one size of each ring in the store, so they would have to order the ring in his size. They can have it delivered to the store for free or they can have it delivered to your house for an extra £5. I suggested we have it delivered to the store so he could try it on and inspect it so if there are any problems, we are at the store and they can assist us. Since the prices were under budget for what we had originally planned and we were both happy with the rings, we decided to go ahead and purchase them.
As the lady was ringing up our purchase, she did tell us about their protection plan. The problem was, it was difficult to read through the pamphlet in order to make a decision right at that moment. I think the other issue is that the staff member didn’t quite know how to explain the difference in what is covered and what is not covered. However, we took a pamphlet and if we decide we do not want the protection, we can cancel the coverage in 30 days. We decided not to go with the plan for Mr. Snarky’s ring because of the type of metal, but decided to purchase the two-​year plan for my ring because of the stones and the possibility that they could come out if I am wearing it all the time.
They actually have quite a large range of jewelry, including engagement rings and watches. And while they do have a range of prices (you can always find some really expensive items), I found that the prices were fairly reasonable and those on a tight budget may be able to find something within the constraints of that budget. Considering we didn’t have luck with the other jewelry stores in the Arndale, but we did with them, I would recommend them… at least for browsing as you might just find what you are looking for!
