Everyone loves stationary, me too. This particular little shop is so quaint that it’s a bit of an unsung Chorlton institution. Run by a lovely couple of ladies, the shop does a nice little turn over and has covered all our basic design needs in the past few years. For specialist goods, give them a go but you might need to go to Fred Aldous. All told what a lovely place.

I love art supply shops. There’s something about seeing all of the paints, paint brushes and pencils that makes me wish I could draw. Conrad in Chorlton is well-stocked with with the usual staple items you would expect to find. In particular they have a good range of sketch books and artists’ pads and paper blocks. You can also pick up larger items such as easels. Surprisingly they also sell a range of craft supplies. Card makers are particularly well catered for with a range of paper and shiny and textured cardstock, glue and embellishments. A handy shop for artists, hobbyists, students and the rest of us.

I’m not a very arty person at all. But I do begrudge paying about £3 for a decent greetings card. So I(attempt to) make them myself. Conrad stocks everything you could possibly need to make a greeting’s card and much much more. At the back of the store they have a vast range of sheets of paper and card. Some thick, some thin. Some patterned, some plain. Some textured, some glossy. It isn’t as expensive as buying a ready made greetings card, but isn’t cheap at 50p-£1 for an A4 sheet. They also stock all different types of paints and paintbrushes, pencils and pens, and everything arty types could dream of. The staff don’t seem particularly friendly or helpful, and didn’t even provide me with the option of a bag to put my card in when it was raining outside, but maybe they can tell I’m not an arty type.
