The controversal piece of artwork outside City Stadium costing £1.42 million consisting of giant spikes that began to fall off soon after it was completed. Thomas Heatherwick’s 180-​tonne starburst of metal spikes was designed to reflect the explosion of energy at the starter’s pistol, was built three years ago to dominate Manchester’s eastern gateway. Now with its reputation in tatters and the sculptor reimbursing the council its a pice of art gone wrong. What a shame as I loved it. Check it out on 360 spin. s website if your interested.
