B & Q — the DIY centre that saved on costs by roping its employees into its adverts. You’ve got to admire it, the company has after all survived two terrible recessions by continuing to advertise while other retail organisations scrimp in the wrong places. And it has just about everything you need to start messing around with the visual logistics of your home. Alongside every kind of paint, wallpaper and flooring you can think of, B & Q also does more furniture than you can shake a stick at. But it’s not just the interiors they cover. Your garden can find lots of treats here too, from decking to patio furniture, plants to barbecues, canopies, gazebos, tents, even trampolines and all the tools you need to maintain your garden yourself. The hiring process is pretty rigorous because all the staff have to have at least some knowledge of any query you might make — if not there’ll be someone in the store who will. There’s even a bevy of tools to buy for all those boring household jobs involving fuses and boilers, you know, the kind I always try and get my fiancé to do. Hey, this has nothing to do with feminism. This is to do with me being born with no common sense whatsoever and having never thought to learn any.
