Best mild curry sauce I have ever tasted. Sullivan’s place down the road gives it a run for its money though! Very friendly staff too-never a bad meal!

Live in London and whenever in Manchester, Armstrongs is our 1st port of call, in my opinion the best chippy at the best price I have ever found, the food is of excellent quality.

Its a really good chippy, when I come over from Yorkshire I usually call for something before getting on the motorway home. As an ex Manc I love the range of pies and puddings, all ready cooked and ready to go. It gets busy but you soon get served. I don’t think its particulary expensive compaired to some in my locality

Good chippy, would’ve got 5 stars if it wasn’t so bloody expensive !!!

I live in Salford, but it’s well worth a drive up the hill to visit Armstrongs. Excellent value, and by far the best fish and chip shop around. Convenient for Heaton Park as well, so you may like to buy some food here before visiting the park, or maybe even afterwards. Good service as well, but as the other reviewer mentioned, it can be busy — but with good reason: the food is always worth the wait. Everywhere else feels like second best after eating here :)

Och I just love Armstrongs! IT announces itself to you with it’s tagline, HOMEOFTHEJUMBOCOD… i always imagine someone shouting it. anyway,…it’s a fish and chip shop that actually looks all shiny and clean inside, and it serves amazing fish and chips, and you can pick your fish size too!!! the curry sauce and mushy peas are amazing! they do actual chip shop curries! which go down a storm, and if you don’t get there quick they will sell out from under your snafftastically tempted snout. It’s amazing!!! The taste is amazing! I’ve been working late elsewere lately and the go to food was fish and chips, and bleugh it just doesn’t compare. where was the rest of my fish… it had nothing on good olé Armstrongs AND it was more or less the same price… Cod, Plaice, Haddock or Scampi… yum! Hungry? Jumbo cod it up for £5.25, it’s over two feet long! feed your family! The only time i ever hated Armstrongs was after the Oasis gig, whereby several thousand hungry giggers were forced to walk up yonder road and good olé Armstrongs was shut. Darn it. Armstrongs is so popular there are always queues, and it can pick and choose it’s opening hours, but it’s worth it! All other fish and chip shops will pale in comparison… even Mr Ramsden!

Armstrongs really is the go-to chip shop in the area. The queues here on a wintry Friday night can get really long when all you want to do is run in, grab some fish and chips and run back out. My family had a take out night probably every other Friday(both my parents worked, you can’t blame them) and mostly we’d stay within walking distance to our house but a fair few times we’d drive up to Armstrongs. It has all the usual– fish(home of the jumbo cod and all that…), sausage, pies, chips, baked beans, peas and cans of soft drink. The chips are amazing, exactly the right size, cut and frying. None of this Mcdonalds fries type nonsense that some shops are trying to get away with. Greasy goodness that you just can’t ween yourself off.

Superb food and this is the one and only Home of the Jumbo Cod and this thing has to be seen to be believed. They have a wide range of food, but most of the dishes are traditional chippy favourates. Parking can be hit and miss as at tea time the place can get very very full of customers. Usally snaking out of the door, which must show you how good this place is. If you arn‘t local but live in Manchester I would recomend a visit to here.
