Popped in here after doing the national trust walk one wintery afternoon. The fire was on and we managed to score a seat next to the inviting warmth. We didn’t stay too long but the food smelt great in here topped with a nice atmosphere.

The Wizard is a lovely gastro pub on the edge of Alderley Edge National Park. The place feels very traditional once inside and has been decked out stylishly. The pub also runs a tearooms next door. We went to the Wizard on a Sunday for lunch and the place was incredibly busy. There was a good choice of roasts as well as pies, fish and chips and salads and although the prices weren’t cheap the quality of the food once it arrived made up for it. My fish and chips were delicious. The batter was nice and light and the chunky chips were triple cooked and melted in the mouth. Also the tartar sauce was home made. My friend’s roast looked great too and the portion massive. My only complaint was the time we had to wait for our meal and hence why I haven’t given the place 5 stars. We waited for 40 minutes for our main courses to arrive and although I appreciate the place was busy, that was too long to wait. Also while the waiting staff were very apologetic about the wait they didn’t offer us a free drink or anything while we waited. However I would certainly return here as the food is very good indeed.

A great find in the middle of the countryside. Just the job when you’re out for a cycle and have made it up a big hill in Autumnal sunshine. I was about to turn left, but straight ahead was the pub, and with such a great name how could I cycle on? It’s a traditional looking pub on the outside. And on the inside that feel is appropiately continued with flagged floors and a number of small rooms. They had a selection of ales — I had Red Storm from Macclesfield(£3.50) and sat outside on traditional wooden pub benches. Inside a variety of people were enjoying it, from ramblers, to families with kids, to couples on dates. Looks like they had a table service for those eating. Definately a place for couples to have a lovely meal on a Sunday afternoon. A good place to chill for half an hour mid-bike ride for me too. I shall revisit and eat all of the food :)

A classic country pub in beautiful Alderly Edge. The Wizard is conveniently located on Macclesfield road in Alderly Edge, and is a great jump off point for a country walk. The pub itself is large but cosy, with a comfy lounge for enjoying a lazy Sunday pint and a more formal dining room to tuck into some gastro grub. The Wizard serves some perfectly executed British classics packed with flavour, and stocks some lovely ales and wines. The staff are attentive and friendly, and will happily recommend a local ale to compliment your meal. which they will suggest to compliment your meal. Outside is a large beer garden with an expansive lawn perfect for children. Next door is the Wizard Tearooms which serves tea, coffee and cakes perfect for weary walkers. (Both venues are also dog friendly, which is handy if you are walking with a canine companion). A lovely country pub in one of the North’s beauty spots. Well worth a visit if you are walking in the area.
