Specialties

Original Beautiful Ethical — oh and tasty too!

We’re a shop dedicated to offering fairly traded and sustainable products.

We offer a big range of foodstuffs ranging from basics such as sultanas, rice, sugar, pasta, canned beans & cookies to speciality African sauces and spreads, Palestinian olive oil, almonds & dates plus many more delicious products from various parts of the world. Then there’s a range of speciality fairtrade teas and coffees from Traidcraft, Clipper & Equal Exchange including a selection of products in catering sizes.

Needless to say as a shop devoted to fairly traded products we have the most wonderful chocolate from Divine and Traidcraft.

The rest of the shop is devoted to handcrafted homewares, decorative crafts, fashion accessories including jewellery & scarves. We’re noted for our range of cards both handmade and printed and as a great place to find just the right gift.

If that wasn’t enough we also stock ethical toiletries and cleaning products from Faith in Nature, Traidcraft’s Clean & Fair range, Ecover and more.

History

Established in 1995.

Originally trading in the High Town area of Luton the business moved to its current premises in the Stopsley area of Luton in 2005.

Long ago engulfed by Luton local people nevertheless still refer to Stopsley as ‘the village’ and this reflects its atmosphere as a shopping area well supplied with independent businesses including shops, cafes, pub, photography studio, physical therapy centre, hairdressers, barber and more.

Known for many years as ‘Fair Deal World Shop’ we recently decided this was a bit of a mouthful and from June 2015 the business name has changed to ‘My Fair World’ with new signs due to go on the shop during the week beginning Monday 8th of June.

Meet the Business Owner

Lynn H.

Business Owner

My original career was in the education sector undertaking the interesting but demanding work of an educational psychologist. During that time I became very interested in principles of ethics and fairness in trade and how this affected people in poor communities in developing nations. This led to a volunteer role selling fairly traded products in the community and eventually to the decision to become self employed and open a shop dedicated to the sale of fair trade, sustainable and ethical products.

This role involves me in education in a different way as we are often invited to give talks and presentations to a variety of organisations. The business is also involved in an organisation called ‘Inspiring the Future’ where business people volunteer to go into schools to encourage young people to have vision and ambition in their choice of studies and future career.

When not working at business tasks, I enjoy reading with the cat on my lap!
